| It's not better, we dumped their MRDVR's and bought 2 TivoHD Their menu system is overly complicated, hit left, press ok, hit left, press ok.. 13 times just to get to the VOD menus for HBO. When I turned it on in the morning it waits 5 minutes like it's booting up before it shows a picture.
Lets not forget that storage went from 160g to 38g for some people.
Perhaps the investment into a TivoHD is a bit pricey for people, but for 299 and a subscription fee you get HD shows you can watch and record from any of your HD Tivo's. You have tivo to go to put them on your pc, psp, ipod or dvd even. You can program it from your cell phone or a web page if you decide you need to setup a recording while away from home.
Maybe if CableCo's would quit dumping millions into crappy hardware and interfaces our bills would actually be able to come down. Tivo has proved they have the knowhow and ability to bring a great user experience, yet the cable companies like little kids just will not do the right thing. -- Mac Chatter »www.macchatter.net

| said by morbo :speaking of, is comcast coming out with their tivo unit soon? Comcast don't have a TiVO unit. What they have is TiVO-sourced application software to run on the existing Motorola hardware. It will just be a remote upgrade for existing customers who choose to pay the extra. | |

| Insight Communications uses the same model, They are CRAP! I'm already on my second unit in two weeks. (My first unit would record programs, then when I wanted to watch them it was just a black screen) The menu system really sucks, I used to have a DirecTV tivo satellite reciever, and I wish I still did! | |

You have to understand that each provider uses different application software on similar hardware platforms, so although the two boxes may look the same they will absolutely not work in the same way. Incidentally, I'm not aware of any other provider using the QIP64xx series DVRs that FiOS uses, though the DCT64xx and DCT34xx families do look similar.

| For now.. For now, JUST SAY NO TO FIOS CABLE_TV_SERVICE. Fios Phone and Internet are relatively rock solid. TV, not so much. I speak from experience from those quirky motorola qip 2500's... total crap. Lost guide data, regularly needed to be reset.. and using the FIOS-Internet connection for guide & PPV data was simply unbearable. Even customer service reps didn't have lots of confidence in the service. They also were very nasty about customers canceling service.. by screwing up the bills too... That's no way to keep customers happy... they're lucky I didn't cancel the whole thing and go to to their competition. While it's possible customer service might be better for some, the service experience is not as advertised. Buyer beware. | |

| My Experience Did much the same thing here. I switched to FIOS in June and dumped my two TiVos for the VZ Homemedia DVR. Well, after having the VZ-DVR for three weeks I was very happy I kept my TiVos.
The most frustrating bug I encountered was when I attempted to delete like 3 or 4 shows one right after the other, the DVR would get mad and restart on me and I'd have to go and delete them all over again.
Then there was the very slow response of the satellite DVR when watching a recorded program in a room other than on the Homemedia DVR.
The DVR was also very choppy compared to TiVo which is extremely smooth and easy to navigate. Not so with the VZ-DVR. Funny thing was when I switched back to TiVo the VZ tech asked why and I asked him if he ever used TiVo......He said no and I said then you don't understand just how unrefined the VZ-DVR was. Don't get me wrong, its not bad, it just needs refinement.
Otherwise I love FIOS TV and INet
