An FCC public notice (pdf) indicates that the agency is looking for a few good men, women or companies -- to act as database managers for the agency's white space broadband efforts. White space broadband allows for the unlicensed creation of inexpensive wireless broadband service by using the spectrum partially freed from the migration to digital television. However, the technology has a significant potential for interference (particularly in urban areas), so the agency is working on efforts to keep interference at bay by maintaining a database used by such devices to detect and avoid rival technologies:The private operators of these databases will of course be paid for these efforts. Companies looking to become database administrators must file an application before June 4, 2010. The FCC is inviting comments on the proposals until February 3.
