They must be looking to get out of xDSL service, or they think recent FCC rulings will force them out and they intend to suck up every buck possible until then. I'm getting kind of tired of paying $50 a month for 1.5/768, even for static IP service. They better get off the dime pretty soon. | |

Some people will be scared off from VOIP because of poor uptime/911 issues, and others hate cable or phone so much they will go to the other no matter what. Either way looks like a win to consumers to me.
And of course, neither the comcast deal or SBCs deal will be available for everyone/everywhere, but it's a start. | |

That's because the telcos round up when they advertise their DSL product's connection speed. Yah, I know, it's the PPoE overhead thing but with Comcast I actually get the advertised speeds, even during the Internet rush hour.

I wish they just buy out greene county cause they are taking forever to roll out cable internet. I've been on SBC DSL for about 4 years now but I would really love to have cable so I can finally ditch my POTS line. | |

I've heard that Motorola and Nextel are developing a cell phone that will route calls through a wireless cable modem while in range and through the Nextel cellular network when away from home. I suspect that will pretty much be the final blow to POTS.

| post subject I don't know if its just me, but after doing a speed test on the SBC speed test page I clicked the link for the offerec SBC speeds... 1.5/384 wasn't listed to my supprise 1.5 - 3.0/384 or 786 - 1.4/128 was. Now myabe they were hiding the it because its what I already have. Weird. Oh and don't for get the port 25 closing  GRRRRRR. | |

| Re: post subject uhm, port 25 hasn't been blocked for anyone yet (at least no one who's posted about it yet) and isn't that big an issue since your email provider should allow other ports anyways.
Secondly, they don't show it as 384 upload yet because they're not done converting all the CO's and RT's over to it, but as they do the people on it get bumped up automatically.
I think this is cool, that comcast $52 price for 4/584 doesn't include regular cable though, which I'm thinking is a minimum of $10, to get the best price they offer for their cable internet. Therefore SBC still comes in under that figure. 
(Numbers based on COX cable in my area since I can't get exact pricing for Comcast since it's not in my area.)

| SBC does make you check your username and passwords before you can send mail. if you use another provider you have to work around their system. i had them for DSL and its a pain in the ass to check email from another provider such as work from home or if you are away from home on a laptop on a hotel network or such.
thats why they have yahoo for E-mail--for problems they say use webmail. then no support or problems
That was even their way to fix my problems sending email from my POP Account---"use Webmail it will always work, that's why we give it to you." | |

You can get 1.5 meg here for 24$ CAD after taxes and 3 meg for 45$. then you have cable which is the same price or cheaper with higher speeds in some areas. Like Cogeco that has something insane like 10 megs for 50. Don;t quote me I will have to look that one up | |

with SBC as it part of telco you don't see on your bill any taxes for DSL just for phone - IMO
so, $22 + $2+ = $24+
yes, it's less then current SBC $26.99 by almost $3/month
then add $20 phone line cost and internet would cost you $47 for up to 1.5mb speed
what's is the min cost from Comcast right now?
last time it was around $65 - that almost $20 more
yes cable speed is better, but Comcast filters all your traffic (check they new policy) and reports it!!!
