Dallas-Fort Worth tops Census list of growing metro areas

The Dallas-Fort Worth area added the most residents out of all metropolitan areas in the country last year, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau.

The Dallas-Fort Worth area grew by 162,250 residents by July 2007 from July 2006, the highest numerical change out of any other major metro area and one of four cities that gained more than 100,000 residents.

Atlanta came in second with 151,063 additional residents, followed by Phoenix with 132,513 and Houston with 120,544. Austin ranked No. 8 with 65,880 more residents and San Antonio came in 10th place with 53,925 residents added in 2007.

The Midwest metro area with the greatest numeric change between July 1, 2006, and July 1, 2007, was Chicago, which ranked seventh nationally, while the Northeast metro area with the greatest numeric change was New York, which ranked 21st overall.
