DSLR's Fiber Optics Forum Breaks Into Top Ten
(old news - 07:26PM Friday Jun 15 2001)
OK, for those of you who might have missed this: a short time ago I had the incredibly stupid and useless idea to boost the popularity of this forum so we could reach #1. No, not #1 resource for fiber optic news and information on the www: I wanted us to be #1 on Google.

Specifically, on a Google search for the terms "fiber optic internet."

So I totally forgot about it for a while, and the whole signature thing was exciting for about a minute, but when I checked back just now I found that we're up to #7 on the Google search.

We started out at #20, and now we're #7. So now we have to do our vicious battle cry (to intimidate #'s 1-6):

WE'RE (only 6 places away from) #1!
We're (only 6 places away from) #1!
Nyah nyah (nyah-nyah) nyah.

Take that, Level 3!

Boo Yah.

Disadvantage of Fiber over Copper

I need help! I have an assignment for Lan Mgmt class. Instructor says there is one draw back to fiber in networking. I can't think of what it would be other than cost. Fiber is the way to go. Please experts tell me what that one simple draw back is. Assignment is due this Friday Please email me at davidkspike@msn.com.
Thank you

fiber disadvantages

I can think of a couple of disadvantages. The first is that a copper wire can supply power to the electronics, while a fiber can't.

The second is ease of repair. If a copper wire breaks, I can tape it together (heck, I can twist it together without any tools.) If a fiber breaks, you need specialized tools and preparation.

Hope this helps.
