Telephony survey indicates high satisfaction
(old news - 07:05PM Thursday Oct 10 2002)
tags: cable · stats
According to TVInsite, Cox Communications' telephony offerings are thrilling consumers (though the article makes no mention if the survey is independent or conducted by Cox). The survey indicated that 97 percent were not likely to switch to another provider, and 94 percent said they would recommend the service to a friend. Cox now claims that 578,000 customers use their telephony services, and that in the areas that first saw the service, they are seeing thirty percent adoption rates and forty percent profit margins.

Great service and great savings

I've had Cox telephone service for over a year and think it's great. I've cut my phone bill in half compaired to Pacbell. If your thinking about switching for home use I'd say go for it. You can keep your same phone number for a one time charge of $10.

True. in phoenix you're lucky to get 20% of what they say. service is capped at 3000/256 although if you're lucky, you'll see better than the 500/80 my friends on cox see. and they're power users, they all know about rwins etc.. Guess its really a blessing in disguise that cox wont come fix my issue in my street.

Cox Telephone and Cable are Great!

I think that says it all. I have been pleased with both services and, if you also have cable TV you get a great discount. Can't beat that

Great service here in Phoenix

I got the whole package. Digital Telephone ($20 cheaper the QWest and with 60 free long distance minutes a month), Digital Cable (no complaints), and CoxHSI (still some hiccups but I still consider it new.) All for about $100. I will never go to anything else. No DSHell for me. My Cox is here to stay

First off, Cox is capped at 3000/256. My connection is usually 2400/240. The highest I ever had was with @home 3100/320. The lines aren't bad, but I do know that the node is overloaded. I have no clue how you get 3900. Post a speed test please. And the hiccups are outages, just spur-of-the-moment outages. Like I had one last night, don't know how long it lasted though. BTW, where is Glendale do you live? I'm near the 101 and I17.

Wow, I could download all the ISO images of Red Hat, Slack and Debian, and Suse in about 10 to 15 seconds on that connection of yours...and the bottleneck will probably be my hard drive trying to keep up.

Re: Great service here in Phoenix

This is why wee need massive big government regulation with hard price controls to squeeze out fragmentation. There should NEVER EVER EVER EVER BE MORE THAN ONE NON-COMPETING CABLE COMPANY PER STATE. If others want jump into the fire, overbuild, and compete, fine, but having 2 or more non-competing cable companies only produces huge inefficiencies and massive overhead. People in the minority MONOPOLY provider will never have cable telephony. They will always get the new services years after everybody else and pay far more them.
If everybody had bundles like that, satellite would strictly be in rural communities and these debates would occur.

Money Savings Abound

Their telephone offerings are competitive indeed. By getting a package with both telephone and cable internet (business class) service for the company I was with, total cost for both services was reduced by $150/month!

As for the quality of the internet service, it really does vary greatly by area. The Northern Virginia area is one that is notorious as a problem area. But two recent surveys (one in progress now in the Cox HSI forum) show that at a national level a very healthy percentage of users are satisfied with their service (although one shows close to 66% in No.VA very unhappy).

The Only Praise I have for Cox Communications

This is the only praise that I have for Cox Communications. I will admit that their phone server is somewhat ok. I have found problems with it though. We have had Cox Telephone for over a year and they keep saying we will send you your calling card. To date we have not received it. As for making international phone calls to our friends in europe. We can't call there. We have been on the phone with them on and off for the last year and they don't know what the problem is.
