| Wow! That would be pretty cool to have my hands on that type of speed. I dunno what I would do with it, but I darn well would try and find something to do with it.
BTW, why is it that they cannot increase our uploads at all?! Screw the downloads, give me some more upload room!

| New speeds now twice confirmed by Cox reps. I checked with Cox a couple weeks ago and was told about the switch to DOCSIS 2.0 and the impending speed increases. This was confirmed again last night when I called support about very slow upload speeds; I was told that my speeds would soon be 5/2 and the higher tier would be 15/2, with the prices remaining the same. I am guessing that the occasional slow uploads people are getting are due to the switchover being made.
You call Cox to verify for yourself, and then ask why they will be charging $60 a year more than Verizon FIOS for the 15/2 speeds. If they want to compete, I would like to see them compete on speed and prices. Who knows, maybe if enough people call Cox will lower the 15/2 price to $49.95 a month like Verizon.
I have no inside information; I am only going by what I have been told by Cox reps.

| FIOS does not have dedicated bandwidth. The beauty of FIOS is that it uses IP so they can do away with the circuit switch network. You are aggregated with everyone else on your node. It is actually very similar to the Cox network except Cox uses coax for the last bit to the home. | |

| Re: New speeds now twice confirmed by Cox reps. The fiber to the node is guaranteed. If by any means verizon gets 100% coverage on a node (unlikely, but if so) they would upgrade with upgraded node/ONT's to proceed to the next generation wtihout running new wires-- lots of docsis 1.0, 1.1 cablemodems are in use.. those are paperweights when the full conversion to docsis 2.0 is in full swing! Same goes to ont's but verizon has made it a point for the INTERFACE to be TOTALLY their responsibility to upgrade to gigabit passive optical netowork... since all the other equipment is in place it would take maybe 1-2 hours per home to switch it over if/when necessary.. but for your info, everyone on the node could theoretcally get 100mbit symmetric before this would become an issue (per node) without slowdown. | |

2 edits | four digit ping times?A lot of the cable ISPs here get flack for their past issues, but Mediacom seems to dodge the bullet here with their past issues.
I've seen four digit ping times myself, on a 2nd hop router, so I likely wasn't the only one. To be fair, it doesn't sustain this exact pattern for a long periods of time, it is more intermittent.
However, I understand that Mediacom is small, and their issues don't affect as many people as these bigger ISPs. But still, those bigger ISPs are not the only ones that have these types of problems.
