The sites that weren't accessible were still pingable. Even though I couldn't get to DSLR, the DSLR site monitors did not show any problems.
It was not a DNS problem. It was not a simple routing problem.

Do you have a general time frame as to when this was happening? I run periodic traceroutes (and archive them) to a couple places (co-location facilities I have boxes in). I can go back and see if there was any obvious network degredation during that itme.

I do not work for Verizon. You , however, have made it clear you work for Comcast and your obvious bias (ex. "It worked for me so you must be the problem.") So anything you say is taken with less than a grain of salt because of the source.
You should know better that bloggers have become a viable alternative to mainstream media. Even the big 4 (Fox, NBC, CBS, and ABC) use them from time to time for ideas. Drudge has been cited numerous times.
Comcast would be well served to read these boards and other bloggers in order to gauge how well their actions and reactions fare with the knowledgeable public. Why? Because word of mouth is way better than any paid advertising.
Better learn to treat your customers with respect before you have none left.

| Re: I know one thing... Their network has many times more fiber in it that verizons.
Not only that..but the cable industry has reportedly spent 100 billion on it the last 10 years. That's 4 times what verizon will spend EVEN WHEN they're finally finished.
Verizon would not be doing what they are if the rest of their network wasn't in the shape it's in..namely old twisted pair. They're taking it to the home out of necessity..not any great desire to spend 25 billion Dollars. And, even when they get to the home..they're using coax the majority of the time to run through the house and connect equipment.
It really is a testament IMHO to how well the cable co's planned out their networks. As recent news has reported..with essentially just a twist on the technology...going to docsis 3.0..they're going to meet and even exceed what Verizon is offering and take speeds to a reported 50,000k +.
That sure doesn't sound like anything misleading to me!
IMO..some people need to get over this Verizon invented fiber thing. They are simply trying to catch up with what the cable co's started ELEVEN YEARS ago.
And that..is a fact. Because as early as 1998..i had a connection via fiber/coax with insight RR..using time warners cable network.

But..they're spending their money in terms of todays dollars..versus the cable industry..who spent theirs over the last 10 years in those $$$.
Inflation adjusted..you'd probably be at 200 billion or more I'd have to think.
But..that's not really the point. The point was that somehow it's sometimes viewed that what verizon is doing is inventing fiber. In reality..what they're doing is catching up to Comcast..time warner and the cable industry as a whole.
It's certainly a good thing. The competition is great for we consumers. -- The Coyote captured the RR! Roadrunner Rick is now Comcastic!

@comcast.net
| Thing is if they lose all those POTS subscribers, DSL won't be available to them unless they switch back in most cases . I mean they are losing more POTS subscribers than they are gaining customers in either DSL or Teleco TV. Here on BBR, they have said that the top four POTS companies are all together losing 2.6 Million subscribers per quarter, with half switching to the cable company. | |

| It's Comcastic!...Or is it? I remember when I still had Comcast they would cut me off atleast every other week for up to a few hours. However, I seemed to be the only one affected compared to outages of this magnitude.
I have to say I've seen none of that now after switching over to FiOS. Plus, the seemingly dedicated speeds can't even compare to Comcast's so-called "fiber-optic" network.
If I still had Comcast and was out for 7 hours (on a weekend too no less) I think that would be the final straw for me to get rid of them for FiOS if I had not already done so.
