Expands push into online entertainment realm
08:33AM Monday Jun 23 2008 by Karl Bode
tags: business · content · Comcast
Comcast's entertainment empire has expanded with the news that Fandango, which the company bought last April, has in turn aqcuired Disney's Movies.com. Movies.com, previously known as MrShowbiz.com, was one of the Internet's first movie news and information websites. You might recall that Comcast attempted a $58 billion hostile takeover of Disney back in 2004.

Comcast is moving in the opposite direction of Time Warner- quite interesting.

Sure does look as if Comcast is working on walling in that garden: buying up content providers, limiting traffic leaving the Comcast network.

I guess they didn't pay attention to what happened to AOL's walled garden.

Crap

This sucks..I go to Movies.com to look up movie showtimes and to get a rating of the movie before I use to go..

Now I'm sure Comcast will mess all that up/fire everybody and hire morons.

hmm,,

Apparently movies.com is now a front end for Fandango as any link you click on there takes you to Fandango.

At the price they're charging for 50Mbps, I HOPE it doesn't do well!

To be a dumb pipe, or to be dumb....

Comcast repeatedly shows that it should stick to being a dumb pipe, when it comes to content acquisitions. Comcast consistently wastes it's money on channels no one wants, or buys good channels and ruins them (TechTV). Now in their web acquisitions they buy websites that people don't use, like Fandango, that they then use to acquire a dead duck that Disney wants to unload in movies.com. It's Comcastic! Comcast should stop wasting money on craptastic content and put that money into their network and cable.
