Clearwire's E-mail Systems Freak Out
Accuses Customers, Non Customers of Non Payment

Numerous users have written in to note that Clearwire's e-mail systems suffered a glitch last Friday resulting in users getting numerous e-mails stating they hadn't paid their bills. Some users complain that they received e-mails saying they didn't pay -- despite having cancelled their service months earlier. This forum user received eight e-mails for non-payment in 45 minutes for an account closed last year. We've seen at least one instance where a user who was never a Clearwire customer in his life was informed he needed to pay his bill or face losing his non-existent service.

Clearwire says the problem was an unspecified glitch in their e-mail systems and customer accounts have not been impacted. It's not clear how the company generated the list of customers and non-customers alike.

"Current and past CLEAR customers may have received one or more inadvertent emails stating that CLEAR could not process a credit/debit card payment and/or that they needed to make a payment in order to reinstate their CLEAR internet service. Nearly all of these emails were sent in error, and we sincerely apologize for any confusion and inconvenience that this may have caused," says Clearwire.

"Current CLEAR customers in good standing should not be experiencing any interruption in their CLEAR service, and no action is needed on their part. Former customers who received this email can be assured that we have not attempted to charge their credit or debit card. We believe this issue to be resolved," says the company.

Re: horrible

If it had not orriginated from them we would lable this as just another scammer phishing expdition. They wouldn't try that for an extra revenue boost would they?

I think this is more a matter of incompatance, then clever marketing.

I got 4 emails between 1PM and 6PM and I haven't been a customer for at least 4 to 5 years.

Re: I cancelled my service years ago

I had Clearwire years ago, but cancelled long before WiMAX launched. I thought the emails were phishing because they had no account info.

Email harvesting?

Kinda curious about the user who said he'd never been a subscriber ever, yet they've got his email address.

might have inquired about the service and the site requested an email to send you more information.

Always use your own separate email.

Good policy: Always use your own separate email, both address and service.

It's very clear

I really don't understand how everything that Sprint has its hands in messes up. I got like 10 emails from them and was wondering what the heck. I do still have their services and the only reason why is because I have the iSpot (jail broken) unlimited for 25 bucks and like 6Mbits otherwise I would have been gone.
