| Re: It depends on whether you call cell 3G broadband Hm, it does seem a little silly to exclude 3GSM and EV-DO from "Wireless broadband"...
I suppose you could classify Clearwire's current technology as "fixed wireless" versus "mobile wireless", but Clearwire plans on moving to "mobile WiMax", so what does that mean?

| Really? I thought the #1 wireless broadband provider was Linksys or Netgear. At least those are the names I usually see when I scan for wireless access points -- I support the right to keep and arm bears. | |

·Sprint Mobile Broa..
| EVDO is much larger This is not really a valid statement as 1) Clearewire is currently using pre-WiMAX, which is not faster than EVDO and 2) coverage and user base are much smaller than EVDO.
Sprint has the largest 3G coverage when including Alltel roaming and Verizon also have huge 3G coverage. Sprint also has over 2m EVDO laptop card users. Verizon has way more 3G EVDO phone users.

@thompsonshipping.com | Motorola owns Netgear For whatever it's worth, Motorola owns Netgear. Clearwire is basically using Netgear products from Motorola.

@clearwire-dns.net | Tiss Tiss Right now Clearwire is running a pre WiMax setup with speeds around 2megs. Once WiMax is deployed we will have speeds up to 15megs at full highway speeds. Yes, you will soon be able to pull 15megs at 65mph on the highway.

join:2007-09-17 | Re: Tiss Tiss The devices will be capable of 15Mbps+ but the backhaul won't be there to deliver that much to every user. Expected mobile WiMAX performance is 2-4Mbps per user with maybe peaks to 6Mbps or so.

@cidainc.com
| speed Qs Not to insult anyone, but Clearwire already performed tests while driving around the Hillsboro-Portland area, and they reported 2.5 Mbps peak, but average of 0.9 Mbps on EVDO, two separate carriers. On their WiMax network (which hasn't been released for public use), they averaged 6.5 Mbps, and a peak of 19 Mbps. | |
