| In order to foster innovation? Well, I suppose it may foster innovation in ways to get around it? But I hardly see how throttling other people's traffic helps innovation, rather I would think it hinders it, hurting attempts by online start-ups to distribute new services. (Maybe that's Bell Canada's goal, but it's hardly innovation) | |

| No surprise Of course Cisco would support this. They stand to make millions selling thier equipment to Bell (or anyone) to use for "traffic managment." So why would they NOT support it? | |

| Innovative because??
They're providing the hardware to Bell Sympatico in order to do this? Innovative because if it works, other providers can follow suit?
Innovative because if companies like Bell can get away with it, why not the cable giants too? I mean, why provide top service if you really don't have to?
Though I am not 100% sure, my guess is that Cisco and Bell have some sort of partnership here happening.

| Well that changes everything I will vote with my wallet on this one. I guess its time to give D-link, and other router and modem manufactures a look. And I really liked Linksys and was planning on getting a new Cisco router when I read they were killing the Linksys name. I would just feel wrong supporting a business that looks at stifling the internet as an innovation instead of encouraging a faster better deployed internet. I wonder if this PR blunder will keep the Linksys name around a bit longer, and if it does I will still be buying from someone other than Cisco. | |

| Re: Well that changes everything I agree with you to. Since I manage a cisco VOIP solution and make all the purchasing decisions it looks like im gonna have to start saving money and buying HP/DELL/3COM/Juniper POE GIG switches and routers for the same price as Cisco 10/100 to include into our network now. I guess Cisco will still get a minute amount from our buisness for their phones and licenses but thats about it from now on. Thanks Cisco you just helped me save a ton of money by switching(GEICO). | |

| Gaming QoS and others How about giving priority to gaming/voice packets priority to get uber stable ping and low latency jitter? NOW, that would be innovative instead of just slowing everything on someone else side.

| Puhlease "Innovative" is when you don't allow your worldwide ISP rating to drop from #2 to #8 or worse in a 10 year period. Bell was "innovative" in that it allowed the system to degrade so badly that they've resorted to 'traffic shaping' and 'throttling' in order to keep up with demand. At least, that's what they say the reasoning is.
And then, rather than fix these problems they claim to be having, they turn around and sell more 14 Mb connections to slow things down even more? Yeah, and I've got some swampland in Florida you might be interested in.

| I will tell everyone I know not to buy their products. This is typical of big businesses. Always short term gains even if it destroys this country.
10 years from now, when Cisco is complaining because the Bells and cable don't need to buy new hardware because they are "throttling" their networks in a effort NOT to innovate for another 10 years. You suppose they will be as clueless as they are now?

| Cisco should butt out of it I wrote to Mr. Elliott (moelliot@cisco.com) to let him know that this is a consumer rights issue and not something that Cisco should be taking a position on. I suggested he clarify that he does not speak for the company, because his comments are tarnishing Cisco's reputation. | |
