Chinese Food Fight Over WiFi IP

The latest in an on-going dispute over demands by China that manufacturers wanting to enter that market adhere to their security standard. U.S. chip makers are reluctant to disclose their intellectual property to the extent required to comply with this closed architecture for fear of losing control of their patented differentiation. By developing their own standards such as WAPI for wireless as well as for DVDs and other tech devices, China can create protect its industries and avoid paying royalties to foreign companies to license their products. | Reminds of... ...France when TV standards were being developed. They choose to create their own standard, SECAM to promote their own equipment manufacturers. But the standard was only different for getting the signal to the TV, For recording devices like Camcorders and VCRs, they used PAL.
