Friday, December 3, 2004After years of negotiations, the contract was renewed between Harvard and cable television provider Charter Communications, a St. Louis, Mo., company based locally in Worcester. At their Nov. 16 meeting, the selectman signed a 10-year contract that goes into effect Jan. 15, 2005. The contract comes with yearly payments to the town of $20,000 to maintain cable operations and a one-time payment of $80,000 to upgrade facilities and equipment for federally mandated public, educational and government programming (PEG) per the Cable Communication Policy Act of 1984.
Town Administrator Paul Cohen lauded the efforts of the Community Cable Access Committee, especially Chairman Jonathan Williams and Jackie Normand who, by volunteering their industry expertise, saved the town consulting fees.
