Although Charter offers 16mb here, I've stuck with 6mb DSL because Charter's reliability is laughable. Maybe DOCSIS3 will improve it...

| Re: Easy to see where they'll deploy.... Yeah, but why let them maybe steal subs when you can clobber them... nip them in the bud, so to speak.
I'm betting you'll see this only in areas where the cometition is either 1) Deploying advanced services or 2) Threatening to deploy said services.
Everywhere else will have to wait... a long, LONG time.

| said by benc :FIOS I can see that. U-Verse? U-Verse is a joke. Charter's current offerings beat U-Verse. The only exception I might see to that is the extremely limited U-Verse FTTP deployments, but since AT&T has deliberately chosen not to even take advantage of their FTTP deployments I don't see that as a threat. Only 6/1 on FTTP? It's ridiculous, but it's that AT&T is doing. It's also why I won't buy anything from AT&T, except landline of course. Just a FYI, you can get 10/1.5 with AT&T now. I don't know what its like where you are, but U-Verse beats everything that Charter has in my area. The best speed we can get here is 5Mbps and that is if your lucky... | |

| Value I hope this is a trend of good things to come. Anything to improve the value of that company and get my stock back up from being worthless would be great.
While we're on Charter, why are they getting grilled about using that NebuAd system (which I believe is criminal), but WOW! hasn't even been mentioned by congress? Am I missing something?

| Re: No cap talk for Charter And if they decide to set caps what do you plan on doing? Leave them? They'll most likely be happy. Especially if you're one of those people that they have that uses a few TB a month on a residential connection.
Charter built their network or bought it using their own money; they keep it up with their own money- nothing was given to them by the gov't. So what they do to their network is their right not your's to say that they can't because it frees up space on the nodes and it is the rights of you and everyone else to have uncapped Internet. If you don't like the caps don't use those providers or build out your own company. I'm sure you could pick up a few years from Charter or another small provider.

They'll most likely be happy. Especially if you're one of those people that they have that uses a few TB a month on a residential connection. I use at most 50 GB a month. Sure they'll be happy if I leave? from I read they need every customer they can get.

First of all if you would actualy READ I've always been for REASONABLE caps. My point is( IF you had any idea what CONTEXT is ) is that they CAN NOT say the reason for caps is capacity because they would be an out and out lie once they instituted all digital SDV and Docsis 3.0. Dumping analog and using SDV by itself will allow them to have as many HD channels as DirectTv. Docsis 3.0 should allow then to give everyone 16 Mbps without caps.

what would you do if at$t does the same thing? complain about them too?
They don't need a reason to give you caps. and doing 50gigs a month is reasonable i'll give you that but if they give you a cap that's their choice.
and its DirecTV not directtv there is only ONE T in their name.
But i stand by my post- if nobody likes their providers cap drop your usage or find another provider or deal with a raised price. DSL won't be uncapped for long once they find that cable companies are doing it. I doubt ATT and VZ want the bandwidth hogs on their network. (not saying you are though)

| Charter... Charter's services are completely OP'd IMHO. TV + internet was costing me over $300 a month (all this was STILL during the introductory rates) w/ Charter. I tried to cut the TV (feel I'm paying this much to watch commercials), and just stick w/ the lowest internet plan they had... the lady said it'll be more expensive because I "dropped" the bundle. She quoted me $70/month (WTF?)! I got MORE w/ AT&T Uverse (have 3 standard receivers and 1 HD DVR; w/ Charter... I just had 1 HD DVR and used analog for the other sets). Both TV packages are very similar, and the net is also comparable (slightly slower w/ Uverse)! My HIGHEST bill w/ Uverse has been $137.
Charter... no thanks! | |
