Car Insurance Premiums dip 7.3%
(old news - 08:15PM Friday Jul 16 2004)
BUT EVERYONE WON'T SEE DROP IN CAR INSURANCE BILL

By ANTONELLA ARTUSO, QUEEN'S PARK BUREAU CHIEF

AUTO INSURANCE rates will be coming down an average of 7.3% across the province, say rate filings released yesterday. Whether individual drivers will notice the difference will depend on several factors including their personal record and circumstances and their insurance company.

Finance Minister Greg Sorbara said he still believes his government will meet its promised target of a 10% reduction in auto insurance rates.

"The question is whether we'll get there by September or October or November or December, but we'll get there," Sorbara said.

NDP MPP Peter Kormos said very few people will see actual decreases in their insurance bills, and will take little comfort from a general downward trend.
