High-speed users know more 'useless stuff'
(old news - 11:55AM Wednesday Sep 22 2004)
tags: fun · stats
Broadband users are more social and have a better understanding of pop-culture than their dial-up counter-parts, says a study from the University of Michigan. They aren't more involved in more complicated areas of study like politics than dial-up users, the study concludes. "Despite its increased speed and a greater opportunity to utilize political resources on the Internet, broadband Internet doesn't seem to be more effective than narrowband Internet in fostering politically active citizens," notes the study's author.

DUH!

With Broadband, there is more than just slow a$$ text to view. Why would I want to read some political crap when I can watch some videos? Granted, I can look at all the freakin news print that anyone could possibly want, but why add to the sniveling about this proposal or that candidate?

There are enough people complaining as it is, I'm not going to be another(said as he sulks off to watch something mind numbing).

Re: DUH!

I remember an article back in 1999 saying the same thing about dial-up Internet users compared to non Internet users.

High-speed users know more 'useless stuff' (huh)

Look they found my brain !
I'll sleep better at night knowing that people who use DSL have a better understanding of society issues over people who use only dial-up.

Kerry supporters?

"They aren't more involved in more complicated areas of study like politics than dial-up users, the study concludes."

"In recent years, more politicians, including President George W. Bush, have recommended that affordable high-speed Internet access become available to all Americans by 2007."

The people from Michigan doing the study must be Kerry supporters.

Funny how all of Bush's programs seem to kick-in well after he would be re-elected (i.e. Medicare Drug Benefit) At least Kerry is about the here and now.

For someone in the hear and now, he's really focused into stuff that happened over 30 years ago.

Did Kerry lie or just change his mind?

thats funny I think Clinton was about the here and now too. Now many of American jobs are out of the country due to his policies. Actually I think he was about the worst president this country has ever had. I could go on for pages and pages but this thread is about the broadand user vs dial up user study.

A rare bit of self control from a party that's traded rigorous diplomacy for testosterone.
