Shortly after Time Warner Cable and Roadrunner announced they'd be testing caps ranging from 5-40GB (with $1/GB overages), Roadrunner launched their own video store. As part of Roadrunner's continuing relationship with Bright House Networks, the latter says they'll start directing customers to the new service. According to the press release, Road Runner Video Store pricing for a download-to-own new release movie is $17.99, with library titles ranging from $9.99 to $13.99 for download to own. Movie rentals are $3.99. TV series are $1.99 per episode, with full-season ordering available.

And if this doesn't count toward a cap

How is this not an antitrust violation?

Re: And if this doesn't count toward a cap

Differently anti-competitive.

Yea you can download as much as you want as long as you buy it from us. If not you will more for it anyway.

Wait... The FIRST THING you think of is anti trust? No, the first thing i thought of is FAILURE. WHO THE HELL is going to pay 17.99 to DOWNLOAD a dvd, not get the box, covers, or a hard copy, and be happy? LOL, this service is DOOMED. If im going to pay the FULL COST for a movie, I want a disc and the inserts to go along with it. Holy hell, who's idiot idea was this service, and if Time Warner has the cash flow to be this stupid and go along with it.

Re: And if this doesn't count toward a cap

Guess the $3.99 rental plan isn't bad. $1.99 for tv show seems steep. But I get my movies from blockbuster.com so I won't use this service anyway. Don't do Pay per view either.

Bell Canada?

Didn't Bell Canada pull a very similar stunt? Throttle their competition, add caps, and then introduce a video store that didn't count against the caps?

This is definitely anti-competitive and needs to be stopped.

DRM?

Customer: "So can I burn this movie onto a DVD!"
RR: "Of course! WHILE your still downloading 65,000,000 pictures!"

Customer: "When I put it in my DVD player, it says it's not a valid DVD"
RR: "DVD players are a thing of the past. You mean you DON'T want to view it on your 13" screen?"

Yeah....

Wait a minute.........

Wait a minute.....Isn't a person who streams and downloads movies a heavy user?

The ISP's are contradicting what they have been saying all along. The people who streamed and downloaded movies weren't a heavy user, the ISP's were mad because they weren't getting money from the movies. Now they got there new revenue stream, everything is fine and dandy.

Since the ISP will get the money for the movies, no longer will we have a internet bottleneck. They are not going to limit the movies you can download because they will be getting money from it. If they say they still have a internet bottleneck, then there is real issues.

With the video store, they want you to go over your cap. I could just see people downloading a bunch of movies and getting a $300 internet bill. That $300 is on top of the cable and telephone bill. If that happened I would laugh my butt off.

See right through them!

They couldn't even wait until the caps were final - they jumped straight in to prove the real reason behind the caps. "Download 30 GB of movies from us, and pay just the movie price - download 30 GB of movies from a competitor and get hit with a $30 overage"

This clearly proves why ISPs should not be allowed to implement caps low enough to interfere with competing video services. Comcast's 250 GB I'd be willing to live with - 5 GB is just insulting.

Actually it's a case study in why network access providers (infrastructure) and content providers should be separate entities.

Time to start the anti-monopoly case against Time Warner...

$17.99.... Fail.

No thanks. If I needed the movie that badly, I'd buy the DVD.

Just curious, if your HD crashes, Laptop gets stolen, or your house burns down, you think your insurance company will pay you for all your "Paid for Downloaded" movies?

HA. Yeah, right!

Right on Punker

Netflix is the best thing going.
1. Get three DVD's in the mail.
2. "Watch" all three in under 3 hours.
3. Pop 'em back in the mail the next morning.
4. Two/Three days later get another three DVD's in the mail.
5. Repeat steps 2 and 3.

I really watch the copies movies when I want.

@rr.com

They did it...

Now netflix is possibly being "throttled" by roadrunner / timewarner networks to keep you at the low quality settings for instant viewing via netflix!

Things were just great for me and when I tried yesterday getting just 1 bar on my quality test I thought something was odd with speed test verifying my connection was just fine.

Today I try again and same result! With searching around I found that everyone is now having an issue with netflix and streaming via roadrunner.

If timewarner / roadrunner are indeed purposely restricting the bandwidth of service to make users only use thier service for videos there must be a lawsuit here somewhere?

Like the first comment this is an antitrust against cable customers!
