Boy, 13, Accused Of Killing Baton Rouge Maintenance Man
(old news - 11:05PM Tuesday Apr 13 2004)
BATON ROUGE, La. -- A 13-year-old is accused of shooting a maintenance man who told him to leave the Baton Rouge apartment complex where the boy was loitering.

Police would not identify the 59-year-old victim. The boy's name was withheld because of his age.

An argument ensued when the man told the boy to leave, according to Baton Rouge police spokesman Cpl. Don Kelly. The boy allegedly pulled a revolver, shot the man and then ordered the man to turn out his pockets.

Kelly said the boy took the man's keys and threw his bicycle into the back of his truck but could not get it started, pulled the bicycle out and rode off.

The boy was arrested at his home and placed in juvenile detention on charges of attempted first-degree murder, armed robbery, illegal use of a dangerous weapon and trespassing.

A resident of the complex, Percy Landry, said the victim's mother owns the building, and he sometimes does maintenance work for her. Landry said he had seen the victim painting a stairwell shortly before the shooting.
