Connectivity for your face
(old news - 10:38AM Thursday Jan 20 2005)
tags: wireless · Oddities
Motorola and Oakley have announced their intention to merge the latest Bluetooth technology with Oakley eyewear. Motorola also announced at CES a plan to offer jackets with integrated Bluetooth, allowing users to make calls and listen to audio tracks via speakers embedded in the hood. Bluetooth, declared dead an estimated 12,427 times the past two years alone; apparently isn't. Next up: Ultra-Wideband pants.

Bluetooth and cataracts; the perfect combination

Hey, just what everyone needs; wireless radiation beamed directly into your eyeballs.;);):D The eye surgeons should love this one - they can clean up on cataract surgery when Oakley customers reach their 40's.

I don't think the radiation would be beamed more into your eyeballs than it is with a cellphone.

The glasses would be really cool if they had some sort of HUD so you could select mp3 tracks and stuff. I might actually consider buying those.

Cool next we can shoot laser beams from our eyes!

@mn.frontier

Actually the sunglasses block the sun's radiation/ultra violet rays from reaching your eyes. Most electronical devices dont emit radiation but rather emit high frequency signals. They are two completely different things. Also you must be pretty stupid to believe that someone would make sunglasses to expose your eyes to radiation.

They are WAY ahead of you. This is already available as an intergal part of a particular bathroom fixture.

The Bluetooth feature would be great, though. It could beam a message to your Bluetooth enabled cellphone, to let you know everything is OK.

New support from Bluetooth

The Bluetooth Brief
This is the new male Bluetooth enabled micro-fiber support garment. The female version will be out in the very near future. It has important functions in addition to the usual Bluetooth connectivity. The most interesting is the function of being able to discreetly reveal the gender of the wearer to another person wearing the Bluetooth brief. this is an important function at a cross dressing party.

As long as you can hack the unit and artificially increase the size it reports, then those enlargement spams will be a faded memory!

Do you know if they will come in boxers?

That is a good question, I don't know. An interesting thing about the Bluetooth Brief is they had to leave out the vibrating call alert because of several car crashes during the testing phase.:)

Hmm..

First of all - why do they feel Bluetooth is out? I use a bluetooth barcode scanner and it works great. It's a nice piece of tech.

Cleaning...

I'm assuming its machine washable? This is going a little far, I'm OK just holding a phone to my ear, but I don't need speakers in my jacket.

Stereo support?

Since when did Bluetooth get the bandwidth for Stero support?

I could see that with 802.15.3 (UltraWideBand).

Re: Stereo support?

Bluetooth has its niche. I have a T3 with an 802.11 SD card. Using the card sucks the batteries down in a matter of an hour or two. As a result, I typically only use it for brief periods to Hotsync when I'm not at my desk--which makes it pretty ineffective considering the cost of the card. I can leave BT on in use all day.

Unless/until they come up with standards to make Wi-Fi more power scalable, BT will be around. It was designed from the start to use very little power, Wi-fi wasn't. In devices where energy availability isn't infinite, Wi-fi is at a disadvantage.

Re: one word...

I think this is great! I alrady have the hs810 motorola headset and i love it with my v710. Integrating these features into any other electronic devices with bluetooth would be great! How nice would it be to see your phones menu and options while wearing the glasses and just talkin all the time! Makes you think how long a standard phone will exist. Atleast some companies wanna make new products that we can be interested in not like the rest milkin' corp eaters! thinkin about these devices makes me wet in pants
