Somebody has to repay the huge (usually military) debts run-up by all recent Republican administrations. Can you say "fiscal responsibility"?

| Re: Someone actually ... said by linicx : WE haven't removed anything, WE started WW III. We haven't seen anything but a cat playing with a mouse. Guess who the mouse is? We had a budget excess in 1999 for the first time in many years that was given to the richest in 2000. I didn't see one penny and yes I pay taxes. Gasoline has risen nearly a dollar in four years, chuck roast which was once 59 cents per pound is now nearly three dollars. Milk is climbing to $4 a gallon and eggs are looking like they will soon be $2 a dozen. Greenspan wants to cut SS and Congress wants to give corporations another huge financial boost.
Our problem is not in Iraq, it is in DC and the million dollar politicians we pay $20 grand each month to do nothing.
Be a referee and throw the bums out!
We've captured a dictator, removed many high level officials, uncovered the UN Oil scandal, destroyed 2 governments, caused a nation to cease development of nuclear weapons, dissected multiple terrorist organizations, and more. WWIII has not started.
Not only that, but it's easy to create a budget excess when there's a little thing called the "Internet Boom". Now that boom has died off and tons of internet businesses failed, which resulted in a shift in our economy that started in 2000, which was still Clinton's era. Oil prices have risen, yet people said this war was about oil... that's funny, because shouldn't prices drop then?
Yes, politicians are corrupted most times, but remember who voted them into office in the first place.

| Must be nice... Of course, Canadian BB services are both GST (federal) and PST (provincial) taxable; perhaps the extra money that the federal government rolls into BB development is why our BB services are (generally) superior to those available in America and why a significantly higher percentage of our population uses them - interesting to see what happens, though. -- I keep the wolf from the door | |

You seem to think that States would use sales tax generated over the internet to develop broadband?? FYI - That is not the way it works down here. We don't live in a socialist society like Canada/Europe and for a damn good reason. If the US was set up like that then the internet you like to surf would have never even been developed by the true innovators/developers of the world, which are "greedy" capitalistic companies. These types of companies can NOT thrive under communist or strict socialist policies. Thankfully for the inefficient societies of the world the USA does not mind the leaching of our technology so your standard of living can improve. I wonder if other countries can even appreciate the contributions the USA has made to the world considering the superiority complex most socialist countries exhibit.
Just because Canada supposedly has a superior broadband system doesn't mean sh*t. Since, of course, everyone in your society was forced to give part of their income to make it so.
Here in the United States of America this type of infrastructure grows naturally like money on trees at no cost from redistribution of wealth. This is what scares the hell out of the world. Why? I have no f-ing idea. They can only complain about the USA and make a sport out of hating us.
Anyway, not like I really care but boasting about the effects of inefficient socialist policies have been annoying the hell out of me lately and I am sick of people pushing this bs (like US lberals) so I thought I would flame you for the hell of it. Peace

| Re: What a joke! said by linicx : If Congress wanted to actually DO something useful, instead of just wanting to "look busy" they would 1-) repeal the law that allows corporations to reneg on paying for prescriptions for senior retirees over the age of 65. 2-) put a leash on hospitals who own HMOs and hire quacks; 3-Cap pharmaceuticals and a few other basic living items such as rent, food and utilities at 1990 prices and tell the corporate suits to tighten their money belt.
They will do none of the above until the public demands it.
You seem to have forgotten or more likely never even looked at and the history of communism. LoL Yeah right! like the public is going to demand the USA convert to a failed communist model. You are definitely insane if you believe that.
Cap pharmaceutical companies? Are you really that clueless? or can you explain the great benefit that this would produce? What the heck makes you think pharmaceutical companies would even produce or innovate new drugs once you restrict their ability to make a profit? Can't you see the friggen light?
Man, this is a great example/case study of the backwards logic that liberals promote.

Wanna know something funny: You know those expensive drugs that most people can't afford, there are usually cheaper and proven safer alternatives that doctors won't prescribe simply because they aren't the "latest and [supposedly] greatest" drugs. ie: for 30 pills: Nexium $139.79 ranitidine $30.00
ranitidine does the same thing and works just as well for most people; but try to get your doctor to write a script for prescription strength ranitidine, and you'll probably get a goofy look from them.
Most of the problem with the medical system today is that it's a lot of people spending other peoples money so they don't take into consideration actual costs; capping prices isn't going to do anything to discourage this behavior and in fact might even make it worse. -- Japan-- Now with 30% more climbable telephone poles!!
