AT&T, Verizon and Qwest have joined forces to create a new system that makes it easier for people who are moving to transfer their landline and broadband services between companies. Through a new website named Movearoo, the baby bells are for the first time cooperatively working with one another to help keep customers within the baby bell universe -- and away from competing voice and broadband operators.

In addition to helping customers switch communications services, the website also offers visitors the ability to shop for moving companies, transfer utilities, change their mailing addresses and even research and rent home appliances and furniture. Not too surprisingly, the website only lists telco communications services -- you'll get no help should you prefer cable, independent ISPs, or indie VoIP.

AT&T, Verizon, Qwest and Embarq are collectively losing roughly 2.6 million landline customers per quarter, and about half of those users are converting over to cable VoIP, while the majority of the rest are going cell only. Obviously, people who are moving take the opportunity to reconsider their communications bundle options. More than 20 million U.S. households (57 million people) are expected to move this year.
