BEFW11S4 v1.4.3 firmware released (not) (old news - 12:22AM Wednesday Feb 06 2002)
The BEFW11S4v1.4.3 firmware released earlier apparently has enough problems to warrant not recommending its use. Therefore, the links to it that were here have been removed.

| Release history for v1.4.3
Sorry folks, in my haste I forgot the release history in my original post.
---snippet from README.TXT--- Known bugs or features not implemented are:
1.) The auto state of setting longPreamble and shortPreamble in the Configuration Record cnfPreamble is not supported.
2.) Although WEP is functional at 11MBps, there is significant performance degradation when using WEP at this rate.
------------------------------------------------------------------
RELEASE HISTORY:
1.) Corrected wireless incompatability with Windows XP.
2.) Secondary supplier compatibility range (RID FD21) has a bottom to top range of [1-6].
3.) Fixed TI#233: Short beacon intervals cause STA to report poor link quality.
4.) Fixed TI#245: Shared Key Authentication does not work on AP when Host Authentication is not enabled.
5.) Corrected a jamming condition caused by a continuous beacon transmission.
6.) Corrected a stall condition due to unrecognized control frames.
7.) Corrected a situation that could cause the TIM to be incorrect in beacons.
8.) Corrected several conditions that would casue the AP to either hang, or not respond to any stations. ---end snippet---
And of course, the obligatory reminder:
Firmware upgrades will erase all settings previously selected in your EtherFast Cable/DSL Router's configuration. Before upgrading your firmware, make sure to record your settings.
And for those of you that are curious, yes, there are some slight differences between this firmware and the v1.40.3 beta firmware that was released on the Netherlands(?) Linksys site. -- (insert witty saying here) | |

| Re: Linksys released buggy 1.4.3 firmware for BEFW11S4 Heck I went out to Linksys today (Feb 8th) and grabbed the new BEFW11S4 firmware file that was dated 2-8-2002 at 6:30pm... and the file is the old 1.39.2 firmware...
What gives? Did they put it out and then yank it due to massive bugs??
---
Also does anyone have CONCRETE data on the difference between the v2 BEFW11S4, and the WPC11 v2.5 cards over the originals that I have... or are they too new? | |

| I flashed 1.42.3 and found tracert, NeoTrace and several other utilities would not work correctly no matter how I tweaked setup. I returned to 1.40.2 and everything is okay again. A-yup, there must be some bugs in the last release. (I just hate doing beta testing when I don't know I'm doing beta testing.) | |

Open questions are:
1- What is 'version 2'? For instance, does it support the new 802.11a 5Ghz spec? Or does it address poor range of the original BEFW11S4 versus say the Orinoco or Cisco APs? 2- I upgrade to version 1.4.3, using a zipped file emailed to me from Linksys. I was able to successfully flash this. 3- Previously, when I used the Linksys web site, the unzipped files included a code.bin.bin. Thats right, two dot bins in the file name!! Anyone know what this is about? On a later unzip from Linksys web site I did get a code.bin. However when I tried to flash firmware (using version 1.255 of the flash program), I got the message "failed to resolve host address"
Anyone able to confirm and or throw some light on some/all of the above??
Keep up the good work. | |
