BEFSR41 Public Firmware 1.42.3 now available
(old news - 05:59PM Wednesday Jan 30 2002)
Just to let everyone know, I received a copy of a firmware directly from Linksys today after requesting some technical help earlier on.
After receiving the firmware I realized that I had received version 1.42.3. At first I thought that was a mistake since the 1.42 closed beta test was going on and rumors of 1.42.1 being sent to testers. But I installed it and sure enough it's a 1.42.3 version dated January 28 2002.

I have spent some time going through it and here is the changes I've noticed right off the bat:

* Some settings aren't kept from a upgrade from 1.40 to 1.42.3
* UPnP is enabled by default.
* MTU is added to the filters tab and enabled by default with 1492.
* Port forwarding is MAJORLY upgraded with customized applications boxes, along with being able to manually set UPnP port forwarding.
* DHCP tab allows you to set client lease times and also to give those DHCP clients specific DNS/WINS servers to forward to.

I have been following these boards very thoroughly so I had knowing about the UPnP issues in the 1.4x versions. I am not sure if they have posted it on their website yet, but here is a copy of the release notes.txt file and ver.txt file included. I have uploaded a screenshot for people to check out of this file.

Public Firmware 1.42.3 With Bugs!!!

Well after installing the new firmware and reading some of the posts about it, up until now I think Linksys did a very poor job on the firmware.
#1 - No tracert
#2 - DMZ Unstable
Come on Linksys. You can do better then that. Makes me kind of wonder what other problems this firmware has. Don't the guys at Linksys check stuff out before releasing it? And what happened too the so called Beta Testers? Hehe, guess their wasn't any. I think Linksys needs too spend more time on the firmware instead of relesing newer ones. I'd rather wait awhile and pit up with older firmware then too install newer ones that will allow hackers on too my network. Just kidding. Just proving a point.

Re: Public Firmware 1.42.3 With Bugs!!!

There were beta testers. I was one of them. The tracert problem existed when we were testing the firmware and it was a known problem. What suprises me is that they actually released this firmware with it still now working.

Re: Public Firmware 1.42.3 With Bugs!!!

I guess Linksys can't win -- if they don't release, people yell. If they do, people yell. Frankly, I'm still quite happy w/ Linksys, and their customer service in terms of continued support and upgrades still beats what we see from most other companies.

Beware of the harsh words, one day somebody might figure that there are fewer complaints if they don't provide upgrades after selling the box!

That said, it would be nice to have a list of known problems distributed with each firmware, I personally could not care less about DMZ, and can possibly live w/o tracert if I can get multiple IPSec pass-thrus!

This kernel seems like a clear win to me, please please please release a similar upgrade for the BEFW11S4!

Yeah but the tracert still doesn't work. This is ridiculous.
