The many brands of Windows PCs may still sell more total volume but that's a pretty good increase from even just a few years ago and it will only continue. The PC market is shrinking while the Mac is continuing to grow. Oh, and where does market research find a lot of those lost PC sales are going? To the iPad.

| | | | | | | The iPad is so limited compared to what a PC or Mac can do. I have no idea why anyone would choose to limit themselves so much and put all their eggs into one basket ( iOS & iTunes App store). It's a nice supplemental product. Everything is cyclical; laptops and PCs will still sell because that's where people get most of their useful tasks done. PCs will still sell as the gaming experience is better and more flexible than on any tablet. Yes, there is a market for tablet games AND PC games... | |

Which does a majority of the market believe is the best purchase? Your argument completely ignores marketing. While product performance is an indicator in sales numbers, marketing can be far more important. Especially in a "lifestyle" product like a tablet. Like Bose and Monster, Apple is a master at marketing; they are able to get customers to pay a premium for a product that has the same (or less) capability and functionality than products that cost half as much or less. I, for one, admire them for that but I don't allow myself the delusion that their products are better. In some ways they are, and in some ways they aren't. -- Jay: What the @#$% is the internet???

My point is that tech specs tend to really only matter to uber geeks, while compatibility , usability, and yes, style, matter to consumers. Good marketing strategies are all about playing those strengths. Who cares about a quad core processor over a dual core if the devices are at least equally functional. The corporate suits at Apple couldn't care less about the musings of Internet forum members. Quarterly reports & profits are what matters.
If they sell the heck out of them going into the holiday season, it's a triumph. If they end up giving them away like BlackBerry Playbooks, you can call it a flop.
Something tells me they'll sell a boat load of them. If that's the case, then epic win for Apple. Tech specs be damned... -- Petty people are disproportionally corrupted by petty power

Obviously, "better" is relevant and Apple's marketing department will likely continue crushing the competition. Personally, I do not like iOS devices and will continue enjoying my Android-based table and phones, but that's not what we're discussing.

Apple has themselves in a bit of a pickle here with the price. The simple fact is they can't be competitive (even though manufacturing costs are such that the could) because they can't price it lower than the iPod Touch which is what they'd have to do! 1. There are more options based on the chart provided to fit more range of users who might use a tablet as the primary machine.
2. Weight and size goes to iPad by just a few points but numbers are numbers.
3. iPad has more memory and it's available if you so desire the space.
4. No rear facing camera on Nexus.
5. 4G option available.
6. One extra color for iPad.
and the only one that matters of any of that is HDD size and on the other hand the ipad has crap display

| | | | | Keep in mind this is based on the available nexus 7 vs the ipad mini which is not released yet either. a 32g lte version of the nexus 7 is suppsoed to be released friday. Still before the ipad mini is released. | |

For the price of a mini and a smart cover you could get a new "old" iPad2. Or if you want to compare it to a Kindle Fire HD, you could almost get 2 for the price of a iPad mini and case.

The tablets coming out next year will have SDXC slots boosting the capacity from hundreds of gigabytes to terabytes (eventually). 2013's gonna be the year of the SDXC tablets!

| DragasoniWe're All Mad HerePremium join:2001-12-14 Palm Bay, FL | I tried an Android phone for 2 months; worst phone I ever owned. Force close apps, constant lag, major lag on the keyboard when texting, random reboots, huge random battery drains, and the phone would often freeze solid as I was answering a phone call. Maybe jelly bean is better, but gingerbread was just awful.
I sold it and got an iPhone 4 which has been flawless in the 18 months I've owned it. The apps look and work better on iOS and there are more available. Plus you don't have to root it, hack it, or mess around with it to get it do certain things. I realize the iPhone does less, but it does everything I need and it does it 100% of the time. There were days that it took a lot of will power not to smash my Android with a hammer; I almost did a few times.
My iPhone has never even gotten me slightly upset in any way. I feel like a got a great value out of it. Sure, it was double the price of my Android, but it's kept my blood pressure down, and you can't put a price on that.
Bottom line, if constantly screwing with the operating system and tweaking is your thing, great, get an Android. Different people have different preferences and there's nothing wrong with that. But don't talk down on people like me who just want the phone to work without having to mess with it. I have better things to do with my time and don't need any added stress in my life.
