Advertisers are wondering where to market their products
(old news - 02:08PM Sunday Dec 30 2007)
tags: Video · business · wireless · stats · content · consumers
Deloitte is an auditing and consulting firm whose reports this year included that 2007 is the year of Internet slowdown and that bandwidth is disappearing. Their most recent report says that Americans are more wired than ever before, citing statistics that show significant growth in connection since the beginning of the year. For example, they show that the use of cell phones as entertainment devices has grown fifty percent in the last eight months. Twenty percent of consumers are using their phones for video almost daily. They’re also watching video on their computers; online video-viewing has soared. Despite this, it appears that consumers’ buying habits remain most affected by television advertising in comparison with other advertising platforms.

Re: Doubtful

yea no way thats correct. I'm not an apple fanboy.. but really the iPhone must have dramatically increased that number but it still can't be that high. I'd say its max 10%

Re: Doubtful

I agree. Deloitte hasn't mentioned how or who they sampled for this survey, as well as why an accounting firm is polling this question in the first place. Is this for a particular client, and if so, does this percent equal the number that the client wanted to hear?

We all know that Deloitte is one of the big 4 now with Anderson all but gone, but who are the clients they're trying to sell this to?

I use my phone to watch CNN, Fox News, etc. I don't have cable though... I doubt that I would watch things on my phone if i had cable.

Clarification?

Twenty percent of consumers who have phones capable of video or twenty percent of the general population? There's no way that twenty percent of people I know have video phones and subscribe to a video or data plan. Those who do are usually too dumb to use it.

Competition, Yay!

Well, I'm too old (over 40) to try to watch TV on a tiny little cell phone screen. I suppose I could with a magnifying glass but then my kids would laugh at me, well, they already laugh at me now but it would be worse. Any youngster would be fine with cell phone TV. If they can see all the details on a GameBoy, a cell phone screen isn't much different.

However, I digress. I'm waiting on TV over IP which is big in most of Asia. Comcast, DishNetwork and the others all charge you for channels you just don't watch. I get 150 channels and I'll bet I only watch about 10 of them on a regular basis. Maybe 15 tops.
