Air Canada To Get In Flight BroadbandAircell strikes another deal for 'Gogo' ( old news - 03:06PM Wednesday Sep 10 2008) tags: business · wireless · alternatives · worldIt looks like Aircell, who is already providing in-flight broadband connectivity to Virgin and American airlines under the brand name Gogo, has also now struck an agreement with Air Canada. According to the press release, the service will appear on "select flights" starting in 2009, but only flights that travel within U.S. borders. After spending $31 million on spectrum, Aircell installed 92 EVDO cell sites aimed upward, designed to provide 3.1Mbps connectivity to each Gogo enabled plane that passes overhead. The Gogo service will cost $12.95 for cross-country flights, and $9.95 on flights of three hours or less. The company says they plan to deploy some 500 antennas, giving them the capacity to support 250,000 broadband users at any one time. Related:- AT&T Plans May Launch of MediaFLO Mobile TV

| Might be good for businessmen but personally I couldn't care less. They've now got AC power in their "renovated interior" aircraft and that's all I care about, that I can run my laptop as long as I want and not be limited to battery. Load a bunch of movies and game and you're all set, no need to pay money to get internet unless you really can't live without the web for a few hours. | |

| Re: Might be good for businessmen It must be for people in buiness class. In coach Air Canada doesn't give people enough room to read a book comfortably never mind opening a laptop. I was excited when I saw the AC outlet, but that ended the moment the person ahead of me reclined their seat. No chance of a laptop then. -- In theory there is no difference between theory and practice, but in practice there is. | |

| Re: Might be good for businessmen Well yeah, you're kind of confined to using your laptop on your lap and tilting your own seat back. Forget about using the meal tray to set your laptop on. It's better than nothing at least. Plus you don't have to use it for your laptop, you can keep portable media players juiced up. | |
