Based on user reports here, I'm considering VoicePulse. If I end up happy with them, I'll have little motivation to move to AT&T's new BYOB service whenever they launch it. AT&T should have had their new service ready to go before telling us they were killing CV, I might have been willing to at least consider their new offering. Now, they'll just lose another customer. | |

| I don't see how they are trying to force more customers imto buying more expensive services since U-Verse is only available in a few states. They also stated that there will be another notification and a bout 8 weeks later the service will end.
My impression after talking to them was that they don't really have any intentions of keeping the CV customers outside of their areas of coverage.
So far for me, Optimum Voice is the best and lest expensive option. | |

| Re: Another one bites the dust! I know U-Verse user who has had Vonage for a couple of years. Very happy with both. He is also in a mega metro area like Chicago. My experience is the opposite. Vonage does not work well in rural areas, period. AT&T has the most stable BB connection in rural areas - and the best. I don't like Bell. I haven't liked Bell since it was allowed to reinvent itself into the giant it was before the bust up, but, you can't beat the fact they do it better than anyone else because they own the long distance lines and control the last mile. -- Mac: No windows, No gates, Apple inside | |

You could go with the PBX in a flash offer that is still ongoing for $4 a month (total .. there are no taxes) and then pay pennies per minute. Incomming is free. I do not work for them. Yeah but now you are comparing apples to oranges. The original thread is about AT&T Call Vantage which is residential PBX is business class. Most residential customers use at least 500 outgoing minutes a month and I use 1,500-2k on average. So that is not a deal for the average residential user. People reading this thread are not going to be interested in a PBX system? They just want to pay a cheap monthly rate between 10-30.00 a month and have a phone that works with a unlimited minutes. | |

First you are not going to get the hand holding or tech support of a company like PhonePower. Second, you don't get nowhere near the feature set. PhonePower gives you up to 3k minutes a month and Voice Pulse is truly unlimited so for for an average family it is a much better deal! Also PhonePower gives you a free ATA as long as you are with them that is plug & play. Again we are talking about CallVantage which is a residential service and the consequences. If this thread was about a business PBX provider like Packet 8 who offers both then it would make more sense to compare?

| Re: CallVantage > VOIPo. Saving $$$ now :) After the SBC takeover of the original ATT, they pulled some of the talented developers of CV into their Uverse Voice platform. If you look at the UVV service offering and feature set, many of CallVantage's best features are among those listed.
As for the other BYOB offerings, I do think the business offerings are the best/only ATT options for anyone outside the UVV service area, but obviously, AT&T isn't pushing them for residential use. They weren't even mentioned in the disconnect letters.
Looking to take my primary line either to Voipo or VoicePulse. VoicePulse will probably win my business, at least in the short term, because they have had years to "perfect" their system, while Voipo is relatively early on that curve. To me, both services are worth looking into, if you have simple needs and want a "managed device" (provided, provisioned/programmed by provider) type service. | |

| Shutdown in 60 days? AT&T's letter simply says Callvantage will be shuttered sometime in 2009, with more information at a later date. The actual hard copy letter does not mention a specific timeframe, but the the on-line Disconnecting Your Service FAQ would seem to imply only a 60 day delay from notification to shutdown.

You folks with ATT Voip product better find a new option NOW!!..Because if you wait until they serve you notice of the changes (service being killed off) and try to port your home phone number away, you may be suprised to know that..oops..the ports are either going to be delays from 20 or 30 days out to even more..or you they may hold your number hostage..I went through this with the now defunct sunrocket and voip.com..thats the nice thing about 3rd party voip.its not fully regulated by the fed's..so porting procedures are not what a comcast or verizon would be due to heavy regulation...start planning your jump now, because you could be sorry, unless you don't mind losing your number.. | |
