Insists they haven't forgotten about BellSouth territory...
(old news - 03:36PM Tuesday Apr 29 2008)
tags: dsl · coverage · business · bandwidth · AT&T U-Verse
When we spoke with AT&T last September about when their U-Verse VDSL & IPTV service would finally reach BellSouth territory, the company told us it would happen before the end of 2007. While technically that was true, the small Atlanta launch market was more of a trial (200 families) than a real commercial launch. AT&T today announced that the Atlanta launch market has expanded, though they're not doling out any numbers.

"AT&T has made a commitment to help customers in the Southeast benefit from faster and wider delivery of innovative new services like AT&T U-verse," said Sylvia Anderson, AT&T Georgia president. While AT&T has only launched U-Verse in one BellSouth-territory market so far, that should change quickly. Our users have spotted VRADS in Chattanooga, Tennessee, while technicians claim a summer South Florida launch.

Uverse Voice and/or Uverse Internet w/o TV ?

Still waiting for a standalone Uverse Internet package or Uverse Voice package (POTS is expensive).
I'd rather use OTA HD than pay for MS-IPTV running on Windows CE.

If you have broadband internet already, AT&T Offers CallVantage VoIP as an alternative to POTS. $25/month for the unlimited plan at regular price. If you are an AT&T Wireless, AT&T DSL, and/or AT&T U-Verse customer, you qualify for a $5/month bundle discount that brings the unlimited plan to $20/month.

Setup is very similar to Vonage -- CallVantage (CV) runs on any broadband setup. AT&T ships you a TA and you plug it into your DSL/Cable/Fiber/Other broadband internet connection, and the plug your phone into the phone line port.

»www.usa.att.com/callvantage/index.jsp? - Website for CallVantage. You can order unbundled or bundled with AT&T Wireless Online.

866-596-8464 - CallVantage Customer Service. You must call to order to bundle with DSL or U-Verse, and of course you can order via phone unbundled or bundled with AT&T Wireless as well.

As far as U-Verse Internet only, some users have gotten it to work and others have not. But the process is order TV + Internet, and then cancel the TV sometime during that first month of free TV. Some users have gotten to keep their U-Verse internet after the canceled TV, and some have not. Read more over in the U-Verse forum here:

Is this a sign of U-Verse

I was told in this thread

»Whatzzit? New construction

That this was for U-Verse. I am in Morganton NC.

Is that correct, that AT&T is preparing for U-Verse in my neighborhood?

Looks like a mini-VRAD to me. Looks like AT&T is gearing up your neighborhood for U-verse.

I will be staying with Comcast....thank you!

I don't see anything dramatically different about U-Verse as opposed to Comcast besides looking to be more expensive. They do have a slightly faster upload but we all know when Re-Verse is launched, Comcast is going to simply up the speeds.

If Verizon (God, I pray to you for Verizon to take over AT&T and implement Verizon FIOS!) were to come to Atlanta, then I would have something to think about.

Other than that, it is simply Comcastic - Phone, Internet and Cable TV.

Have you looked at the prices?
Actually cheaper by a good bit if you look at regular pricing.
Of course comcast will offer promos to keep people from churning.

Think they're coming...

Pretty sure i've seen a VRAD or two pop up in the Conyers, GA area too.

They've (AT&T) been digging a pretty significant size hole at the corner of my neighborhood. If they put something in it i'll investigate.

Re: Think they're coming...

If you live in Buckhead area, you can place your orders now. If you don't live in this area, you'll be waiting to late May, early June if U-Verse is already built out in your area.

Re: Think they're coming...

What I have read about U-VERSE is it has high pings on its network, plus how they setup their profiles.
Yes, it would be awesome if Verizon purchased AT&T BUT DO NOT THINK MIRACLES LIKE THIS HAPPEN.

Someone in this thread says they are installing in south Buckhead »www.uverseusers.com/component/op···msg62861

Does your address show it's available on the uverse web site or did you call them to find out they are taking orders?

'Our users have spotted VRADS in Chattanooga, Tennessee'

Sure it looks like it houses a 7330...but that doesn't make it a VRAD...though it may become one.

Yes, I will love the downgrade to U-Verse Internet Service.

I will love having my FastAccess DSL Xtreme 6.0 at 6500kbps becoming U-Verse 6.0 at 5500kbps.

I will love the increased latency from my U-Verse Interleaved connection and my Xbox Live will love it too.

I think that I will stick with FastAccess DSL Xtreme 6.0 with a Data Path of Fast for my Internet connection and DirecTV for my television viewing pleasure.

Re: Yes, I will love the downgrade to U-Verse Internet Service.

You won't be synced at 6Mb/son U-verse. They use a similar shaping technique as bellsouth.

And interleave isn't bad per se.

AT&T dropping previous cable TV service in Marietta

Interesting. My boss, who lives in Marietta (north metro Atlanta) has had AT&T (nee BellSouth) TV service for several years now, and just got a notice that they were dropping TV (is it cable? I have no idea) service in his area altogether, and would he like to have DirecTV? (He can't, too many trees in the area.)

ATT comes to Atl

In central Florida Bellsouth was in (employee) trials with IPTV before the ATT merger (1-1 1/2 yrs ago) but ATT uses a different system than Bell and it was all put on hold to be re-engineered or redone down the line (sigh)

Bellsouth

Bellsouth Entertainment

Here in Miami Bellsouth Entertainment send a letter to there cable costumers saying that the last day of cable service was June 23, 2008. ATT send us the information to get Att Dish Network. I would love to have Att Uverse this summer considering that my cable will go up from 47.99 (Bellsouth price for cable) to comcast 70.00(after intro price) dollar for almost the same channels.

Also I had before Adelphia(horrible service)witch was bought by Comcast and from what my neighbors tell me is sucks. Compare to Bellsouth that there cable went out 2 times during 2005-2008 and once was during Hurricane Wilma.
I think that at most was 5 times from 2000 to 2008 Including all Hurricane that pass.
