| ATT Shows who wears the pants SBC not BellSouth.
BS guys the first to go. Only logical step is to get rid of management when this merger took place. Downsize and save money.
As far as prices of services that's going to stay for now. Why cut prices when the money is good.
Investors like the idea for ATT to come in line with Bellsouth prices I am sure.
Would be nice to see lower prices though.

Duh. Are you forgetting who bought who? Why shouldn't the victor take the spoils? This has been 20+ years in the making. SBC's team deserves to reap the rewards of their efforts.

No competition gets you higher bills instead...... And they wonder why they are bleeding customers left and right.
Even in and around Metro Atlanta the much maligned U-Verse service is a no-show so far.....

| nah - this is Atlanta paper, so they talk about BellSouth. Several senior AT&T/SBC execs also retired this week.
ATT made it worthwhile for execs near retirement age to retire, opening up more upper level positions. The reorgs are starting at the top, filtering down to the VP level, and eventually will get to the workers.

| How did the FCC allow this? The company's pricing difference between BellSouth and AT&T's legacy thirteen State territories persists, but is something that should be remedied this year. Isn't the FCC supposed to be working for the good of the tax paying consumer? We love to accuse the oil companies of gouging us but at least the price we pay for gas fluctuates between regions in some small way based on supply and demand. How can AT&T's costs be such that they can create a national price plan? Do the coast to coast costs of maintaining services allow a national price plan? | |

It's not the "tax paying consumer" that is taking these guys to lunch and picking up the tab on the green fees. It's very well paid lobbyists that work for the phone companies.

I just don't buy it. They will continue to milk old BS territory as long as possible. Despite all the excuses from telco shills that "it takes time!" to change pricing due to their different billing systems. bullshit. They decided to just keep the over-inflated Bellsouth pricing and make it higher in the other locations so it will now match.

| This is nationwide........... While the focus of the AJC article obviously is focused on the former BS territory, this is nationwide. All regional structures (Midwest, Southwest and West) are being 'disbanded' you could say. No more regional CEO's etc. This was inevitable. You can't have a company trying to be national and having 4 regions involved with decision making. The closer you are to the customer, the 'safer' you are. You wouldn't want to be a VP of anything these days.....and there are tons of them.
