| Re: I don't see it in Bellsouth country i want to add a correction to the previous post: while it is true that in Puerto Rico you don't pay FEDERAL taxes, the local (state) taxes are more than double of the U.S. State and Federal Combined (i am a CPA, so i am familiar with both tax systems). also this year there is SALES taxes on everything - including food and groceries - unlike on the US where the groceries are not taxed.
regarding the "free" military, Puertorricans have served in the military and died in all wars since beginning of last century (after Jones act was established March 2, 1917) | |

They don't make it readily available.
They say it's for "new customers" only.
And you don't make them stick to it for more than 2.5 years.
Why bother? Why didn't you say, "do it now, and make a plan that is forever and costs 50% of the cost of your mid-tier plan"?
That's ok we understand... it's tough making tough deals when you are wined and dined by these corporations.
Let's just spend tax payers money to break up the monopoly and then spend tax payers money all over again to "oversee" it's rebuilding with petty short lived compromises like this one. | |

Which I read as ALL ATT customers (that would be new to ATT DSL) I'm just kicking myself for not being patient by 5 days as I just signed up for my first ever DSL with another company. I thought I had interpereted the agreement wrong and thought it was for areas that previuosly didn't have any DSL available from ATT or Bellsouth. Yeah and the $15 vs $10 differnce over a year is $60 which I know for you latte drinkers ain't nothin but for me it's something! | |

I think you can not say ALL ATT customers that would be new to dsl. The hook is that it is in the states where at&t is the ILEC. at&t is a CLEC in a number of locales as well and this offer would, in theory, not apply there.
Kinda makes sense though because nothing assures at&t they would be able to buy from the ILEC at a price that would allow $10 to the customer. | |

PS: Edit, if I put in a Gainesville, FL (closest Bell South to me) it comes up $19.95 for 768 tier one. They must have a sweeter deal with the FL Public Service Commission or someone in the state. Check it out, enter 352-376-xxxx on their site, which is a very old Gainesville NXX exchange.

| Stand alone DSL has been available in the old 9 state Bellsouth area for the past month. Call up and ask for Bundle 90 or Bundle 97 (97 requires you have Cingular to bundle with it, but it gives you $5 additional dollars off your cell bill which will be combined).
And the $10 deal is for all 22 states and no it isn't advertised - you have to click on the link for "term contracts".
BTW, $10 for a 768K connection with the price set in stone for 2.5 years isn't enough for you? Comcast is charging me $29.99 per month for a 300K connection and if I want it to be faster it will cost $55.
Also keep in mind DSL Lite prior to June 1st was 256k and $24.95 per month. So cutting the price by over 60% and tripling the speed and you're complaining? What a jackhole. | |

| it is 15 for me what a croc. it is 15 for me. I doubt the merger conditions meant you would have strings attached. Maybe next time if they were selling cars they could sell you one car for 10,000 but you have to purchase a suv for 10,000 also. It may be reduced price but you have to buy something else.

When you click on it it brings you to a screen that asks if you've had DSL in the past 12 months and if you are currently a dial up customer. I said no to both and used a relatives home TN (they don't have DSL) and it came up with all the speed tiers, including the $10 package.

| Fatness from what I heard via my sources (internal memo) the offer is $10 a month for new customers and the offer is good till 2009. As long as you don't change default on your service the $10 price stays the same. And how long do you have to make up your mind well from now till 2009 once 2009 comes then the deal is over.
This being part of the FCC merger agreement.

| I give up For 2 years I have only been able to get the 1.5 package which averages 600-900 down. I have been hearing I had a distance problem the entire time and upgrades promised. I felt I would hang in there waiting for the AT&T price drop. But after hearing this good bye is soon. I've been paying $32.99.
Charter cable while a lousy cable company has a promotion of basic cable and 3.0 internet for $29.98 a month for 12 months. At least while it works it will be faster and cheaper. AT&T obviously isn't going to do anything. Charter has a 30 day money back guarantee. I'll keep AT&T that long to test their service. | |

Its catch-all is that the term deal is ineligible for promotions except the dial-up upgrade.
If you live in the bellsouth area (which it verifies by checking the phone number you have to give) and apply through the www.bellsouth.com website, it will ask you two questions up front:
1) Are you a current BellSouth or AT&T Dial-up customer? (it will ask you for an official email address to verify your account)
2) Are you a current or former BellSouth or AT&T high-speed Internet customer?
The first question I'm pretty sure is to qualify you for the rebate deal, while the second (dis)qualifies you for the $10 1yr-term deal.
I haven't actually tried since I don't have their dial-up and the $75 modem is a deal-breaker for me. If anyone was still able to get the rebate, please post your story here.
Also, does anyone know if their DSL is bittorrent-friendly (I mean, they don't throttle it or anything do they?) | |
