AOL plans online marketplace
(old news - 02:57PM Wednesday Oct 02 2002)
CBS:

The company's representatives have invited some of the biggest merchants using EBay (EBAY: news, chart, profile) to use AOL's service, too, the Wall Street Journal reported. Sellers would offer goods at fixed prices, and AOL (AOL: news, chart, profile) would collect a commission on transactions. Apparel, consumer electronics, furniture, and services such as painters and contractors, would be offered, the article said.

Aol Cable Broadband Mass Confusion

Hello everyone. First off after browsing through all these forums, I hope I am posting this in the correct place.

I recently switched from dial-up to AOL Cable via Time Warner. Everything was fine until last Thursday. I was really impressed with the speed and ease of use..that has since ended.

I got up Friday am to find that I was "hanging" as I was trying to sign on. Well, after several reboots, several hours on the phone with AOL, many, many reinstalls of the AOL software, I am now unable to sign on via cable..dial-up is fine, it is how I am posting this now. I have spent hours, literally hours with both AOL and TW on the line, sometimes at the same time, not a soul has a clue as to why it is not working.

So today I got the bright idea I may have caught a virus or something Thursday night so I reformatted the HD, reinstalled WIN98 and then AOL software..several times over. It will not connect, it gets as far as step 6, checking password and then signs off. AOL blames TW for the connection, TW blames AOL for the software. They walked me through all the "pinging" things and they can "see" at TW and AOL that the cable modem is working, it is pulling an IP address, and noone has an answer.

Has anyone else in their right mind or otherwise, had this problem. I had not or have not installed any programs, I do not have a firewall running. At this time, Im ready to pull what little hair I have out. The only thing that happened from the time I went to bed the other night and the time I got up was I had the maintenance wizard set to run. This should not cause a problem it has not before, I run it almost daily or every other day and it never caused a problem. Anyway, after reformatting and reinstallin the OS, if that had been a problem, it should have corrected it..no?

Any suggestions or advice is mush appreciated. Neither TW now AOL has any answers, they act as if they have never heard of such a thing and to be honest..I believe them!

Help appreciated and very much needed!

Jim
