Comparing the worries surrounding wireless signal exposure
(old news - 07:23PM Tuesday Dec 12 2006)
tags: wireless · world · Oddities
Despite the fact there are no studies showing that Wi-Fi causes health problems, worries persist. Despite new studies showing that there is no link between wireless phone use and cancer, worries persist. The Times On-line (via Wi-Fi Networking News) compares persistent fears surrounding both technologies, and notes that a year of Wi-Fi exposure equals twenty minutes of cellphone use. "If wi-fi should be taken out of schools (which has happened both at high-schools and Universities), then the mobile phone network should be shut down too—and FM radio and TV, as the strength of their signals is similar to that from wi-fi in classrooms," says Dr. Michael Clark.

They go right through matter...and they are totally harmless. Pretty sure the same can be said about wi-fi, etc. Bottom line, there is more harmful effects from other things including the sun, yet without the sun we are useless. Nevertheless..I still say we should just blow everything up and settle all these disputes once and for all.

btw...thanks for the spelling correction...I knew I spelt it wrong but google wasn't being a friend and I was feeling rather lazy...

If anything, people should worry about all the crap they put in our food supply. I went to a total health food diet about 3 years ago, after reading a bag a Doritos can actually last for 50 years and steriods are pumped into cows more than MLB players, and never get sick. No wonder kids have all these weird illnesses.

Sure, it is expensive. BUT, how expensive is thousands of dollars in surgeries and pills I don't need because I spend about 25% more than I used to on good food? No red meat is a good start. If your nose is stopped up, boil a cabbage in a pot and put a towel over your head and enhale the fumes. You clear up in no time. I even smoke a few cigarettes a day and my doc said, "Gee, you are the most healthy person I've ever seen."

Only a complete idiot would worry about cellphones more than all the junk they pump into food like steriods, preservatives, etc.

Kids always had weird illnesses. Can you show me a scientific study (not sponsored by "health" or "natural" foods interests) that says preservatives or other artificial (which doesn't mean "bad") additives are unhealthy?

No red meat? Are you insane? You really need to lay off the koolaide. You want to prevent surgeries and pills, exercise.

actually they won't... it's well documented that people without modern technology (as in technology of today) had shorter lifespans... you were considered venerable by the age of 40 - 50 and most likely would have had a sickly life in the good ole' days in luddite-land... these people are fool and dangerous fools at that... they painful naivete at the technologies of the world does everyone harm in the end... they should be ignored and castigated as idiots without reproach in society...

What, me worry?

I work in a place where we've got dozens of pieces of 2.4G equipment going all the time. Aside from the extra eye in my forehead (which comes in handy sometimes), I haven't noticed any averse effects.

Another constant source of radiation!

»en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun

It's been bombarding us all with almost every kind of radiation imaginable for all of our lives! IT MUST BE DEALT WITH!

Sure, the planet will freeze over and we'll doom every form of life on it to extinction, but hey... that's the price you pay to reduce your risk of cancer!

The sun will explode in around 6 billion years killing us all anyway.

i used to get headaches from my analog cell

I used to get headaches from my old analog cells. I don't feel much of anything anymore with the new ones. I remember back in the day that my computer speakers would oscillate alot when the cell was about to ring (i think it still does but not around the small amplified speakers any longer). Granted if you had your heard right about near the AP or the client antenna that might not be so healthy. I just tried a bluetooth headset and that gave me a headache. I love WIFI and don't think an AP around will cause any health problems then what we have already. Granted all the waves in the air could cause cancer in some people but that would be very hard to prove.

I wouldn't want to override the safety switch that, on older models, can be found as a button or pressure plate on microwaves, then set the power to 100 percent and turn it on. Ouch!

Exactly what evidence do you have that WiFi causes cancer? The power levels that your standard wireless router emits is around 30 milliwatts. According to the FCC, the safe level of RF radiation is 4 W/kg. (See: »www.fcc.gov/oet/rfsafety/rf-faqs.html#Q9 ) Even assuming a 30 pound child, this works out to a safe level of 54 Watts (see »www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&···G=Search ). Much, much more than a wireless router emits.

I didn’t know that man made radiation was a good thing. Can you tell me how I can expose myself to some more? Radiation is safe, it doesn’t cause cancer and there are like many long terms studies like 20-30 year old studies out which back these claims right? I don’t know you guys seem to be the expert on these things:P

Forget cancer; much bigger problem-cellphones killing sperm

Forget all those cancer worries. Want to have kids? Well then men, you better stop carrying your cellphone in your pants pocket. A study says it is killing off your troops - lowering sperm counts up to 50%.

Just stupid

I bet all these people at least most use a microwave. Anyone know that it will change the molecular structure of some foods put in it?
My college parking lot has high tension wires running through it, and it has a wi-fi network. No one has complained of health problem.
These people just have nothing better to do then complain about pointless things. I'd like to know how many kids of these people have cell phones.
