| Lower the prices! I have Att GSM wireless service and they charge something like $7 for 1 megabyte of download for their internet connection. I haven't even bothered trying it because that is such a ridiculous amount of money for 1 megabyte. If they did something like $20 for unlimited, I might budge. Lower the damn prices if you want people to use the service. | |

| Re: Lower the prices! I have the $7 for a megabyte stuff on my GSM phone and its actually quite worth it. After browsing the web on my phone for about an hour and a half, there was only 40 KB used. You get 1024 KB for the $7. So its really hard to use all of that up. Also, you can download just about anything you want from ringtones to pictures and not have to worry. Plus its only 7 freaking dollars. If you want to pay the $20.48 for the same amount of data without the plan (its normally $0.02/KB), be my guest! Also, if its possible that you do go over, its only $.01 per KB. | |

| Think yourself lucky, only $7. I am in the United Kingdom and paying £8 (about $12) for 1Mb and then if you go over the top the equivelant cost is about $0.03/Kb, and I am on the cheapest (and best) mobile telephone network who actually use the 3G technology here. | |

| yeah - I'd probably go for sprint but i don't have to pay anything for the service itself so i think i will stick with at&t. My bill is usually only around $14 after taxes and some other added features. I get 1000 anytime anywhere minutes so im quite happy | |

| 3G is more than just cellphones which is where the perception problem is. If 3G was deployed with the same footprint as cellphones (ie the carriers upgraded the entire networks) you would be able to have a high speed (384k+) connection for any computer you wanted almost anywhere in the country.
Unfortunately as you stated, their marketing department would rather push camera phones than high speed services for the business traveler.
Additionally their pricing plans reflect a cell phone mentality which won't get many customers.

| Re: Who cares? First off my experience with current technology is that it is as reliable or more reliable than wired connections. I've used several different wireless data services over the years and have had excellent results.
You just brought up the second persception problem, the first is that it is only associated with phones, the second is that it is a wireline replacement. It should not be either, it's only due to the sad state of high speed deployment on the wired side that you would think to compare this service to a wired equivilant.
In reality this service is best used (and will be recieved by people who are willing to pay what is worth and not scream for cheaper pricing) by mobile proffesionals.

| Re: Your Right! Here's the thing, if all the telecoms pushed 3G as the ultimate broadband solution as the wireless answer, it would be great, but we have one small problem.
The network, is not 100% fully ready for multiple high speed connections going on at the same time. All the carriers are tweaking out the network to see what it can handle and as soon as it is cable of fully substaining 144-384k continuously from MULTIPLE connections, then it would be the end of 'last-mile' issues as we know it. The other aspect, is who provides the 'isp' support for such a service? Sure you can get unlimited vision or any other 3G product, but none of them are going to give you 24/7 Internet/Email support and the connections (Unless completely stationary and that's questionable) is ready just yet to handle online gaming. Everyone complains they have to wait forever to speak to CS about a cell issue, imagine trying to call in about a cell issue and an internet issue at the same time.
Overall, the service is almost prime time, not 100% there, but VERY VERY soon. -- Darkflight- PCS Vision- Way of the future.

| Capacity and NOT diversity Instead of increasing the Broadband data roll out time frame they need to focus on service capcacity. I can't imagine serious data use on a network that can't sustain the traffic of the current voice customer base. Living in a large Metro like Philly you'd think that the capacity would be a null issue but it's sadly NOT. They sell more service without an eye to sustaining service levels and we all end up paying for crap the more users they dump on an over saturated system. THAT needs to get addressed BEFORE anythings else. I don't mind paying for a service if I can actually GET that service. »eo.dyndns.info/mt-meblog | |

@rr.com | Re: Capacity and NOT diversity Capacity has not been an issue with the new 3G networks. The new networks are capable of handling 3 times the voice calls as before. Try out Sprint Vision in your area.
