Ah, those wonderful synergies...

Centurytel recently acquired Sprint spinoff Embarq in an $5.8 billion dollar deal, though filings indicate that Embarq rejected a higher offer. CenturyTel’s offer valued Embarq at $40.42 per share, a 36% premium, while the other mystery bidder offered $40.86, a 37% premium. Embarq took the lower offer. Embarq justified the selection of the lower offer by saying it provided $400 million in "annual synergies," and CenturyTel’s use of 700 MHz spectrum makes integration easier. It's not certain who the other mystery bidder was, but a likely candidate is Frontier Communications. Considering Frontier plans to implement 5GB caps, Embarq customers may have dodged a bullet.

5GB?

Thank God Frontier (if they were indeed the suitor) didn't win the bid. 5GB???? Surely you jest. If I wanted to be restricted to 5GB caps, I'd just use a Verizon Wireless aircard.

hmmm

well, if frontier really was the top bidder, I'm glad Embarq went with CenturyTel--a 5GB cap is just as bad as EVDO...if not worse, considering that it's non-mobile.

could this be...?

if frontier communications was indeed the higher bidder, does this mean that a provider is actually looking out for the best interests of its customers...?

I agree with that. Its only matter of time befor more ISP's apply caps. Since few of them all ready took the step.
