WiMax vs. LTE depends on what's available where
(old news - 01:45PM Saturday Jul 05 2008)

As 4G technology develops, we have seen it diverge in two different directions. Companies seem divided about whether they want to support WiMax or to throw their weight behind LTE (and some businesses are making a bit of investment in each to cover all bases). A recent wireless survey took a look at what is driving companies to choose one or the other and found that the two main motivating factors were technology availability and business models. The technology must be reasonably available to be supported but also must prove itself to be a wise marketing choice for the businesses seeking to move forward with it. For example, WiMax is popular in emerging markets where the technology for LTE just may not be available for businesses to seriously take advantage of in the near future.

Re: 4G???

Its not widely popular yet, but its time to start talking about the technology they're going to use for 4G. Sprint already has a few test markets for WiMAX and has stated that will be their technology. AT&T and VZW have stated they will be going with LTE.

It'll be a long time before phones get this technology, right now I believe its only available on data cards with the carriers that are testing it.
