Don't know much at all about dual WAN routers that do what you describe. I do know one thing that generally holds true for such setups though: Be prepared for pain.

US Congressmen add Canada to list of pirate countries

A US congressional committee has added Canada to China & Russia as a country that ignores copyright law.

The co-chairs of the Congressional International Anti-Piracy Caucus (IAPC) today released their "Priority Country List" today highlighting some of the most pressing problems confronting the American creative community in global commerce.

Joining China and Russia in "the ignominious three" is Canada
which, notwithstanding numerous public announcements, has failed to join the rest of its partners in the developed world in modernizing its copyright laws to address the challenges -- and to seize the opportunities -- of the digital age.

"RIAA salutes the work of the IAPC, and in particular the IAPC co-chairs, Senators Biden and Smith, and Representatives Schiff and Goodlatte, for their efforts to shine a light on the practices of some of America's trading partners where they fail to meet international standards.

The IAPC also noted particular concerns in Mexico where piracy continues to dominate the landscape, and also and in Spain and Greece who have fallen behind European partners in the fight against piracy and where significant impediments to effective copyright protection persist -- both in the online and physical environment.

Fiber broadband a terrorist tool in Lebanon

Over the past few weeks, things have heated up again in Lebanon, with the U.S.-backed government on one side and the Syrian-backed Hezbollah on the other.

To many U.S. observers, this might be just another case of tensions flaring up in the Middle East. Do not be fooled. This is all about telecommunications policy--and the design of secure, attack-resistant data networks.

In an effort to stop Hezbollah's guerrilla fighters from communicating, Israel has in the past jammed the cell phone towers in the Hezbollah-controlled areas in southern Lebanon. Eager to make sure that didn't happen again, Hezbollah has covertly built out a fiber-optic network throughout the areas it controls.

(Hezbollah's leader, Hassan Nasrallah) said the government's decision to shut down Hezbollah's fiber-optic communications network was tantamount to a declaration of war. For the (central) government, the network represented an intolerable example of Hezbollah's efforts to set up an Iranian- and Syrian-backed state within Lebanon. Hezbollah justifies the network, which carried its communications during a 2006 war with Israel, as a vital security asset.
Now there is a twist not usually reported in MSM. Battle's fought over fiber optic communications.

Let's Go Flyers!!!

Crush those Pens! Not too thrilled with an afternoon game, they do better at night. Timonen may play. Hope Hatcher's 'attitude adjustment' on Ryan Malone (3rd period) set an example for Sunday.

Agreed. I had the honor of holding the "RIP Caps" sign as they came out of the tunnel during the pre-game skate for Round 1 Game 6. Sign-man loaned it to me because I was right at the glass. Wow.

Cable internet grew faster than telco last qtr

»news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080515/ap_···e_vs_dsl
Cable companies attracted more Internet subscribers than phone companies did in the first quarter, reversing a 3 1/2-year trend, according to a research report Thursday.

The 19 largest cable companies in the U.S. added 1.19 million broadband subscribers in the January-to-March period, according to a tally by Leichtman Research Group.

Phone companies added 1.01 million DSL customer in the same period, the report said.

Since the third quarter of 2004, phone companies had been adding subscribers faster than cable, closing in on cable's lead in total subscribers. But that lead is now widening, with cable companies having a total of 34.7 million subscribers compared with 29.5 million at the phone companies.
The announcements concerning cable's death has been greatly exaggerated. And as they roll out Docsis 3, cable should remain strong in the # of their internet users vs the telcos.

I have said it before and I'll say it again:

DSL/U-Verse is too damn complicated. Cable is easy.

The sad part is, the OLPC interface was great.

The reality, having an OLPC with Windows XP will do more to advance 3rd world countries than some new laptop with an entirely irrelevant OS.

How and why is GNU/Linux entirely irrelevant? What does XP bring to third world countries that GNU/Linux does not?

Absolutely, because for someone who claims to be a network engineer in their site profile, calling Linux an "entirely irrelevant OS" stinks of not having a clue.

I really should update that.

I support 11 CentOS 5.1 servers ... with a few SuSe boxes thrown in, along with 3 Windows SQL boxes.

I'm definitely not a "Network Engineer."

Okay, but that begs the question... If you work with and actively support a Linux system, why would you call Linux an "irrelevant OS" ?

Wiring Insanity

What's more fun to pull through walls, component cable with all 5 wires or HDMI cable?

I just finished 2 runs of component cables to 2 different rooms. So far, just splitting the signal out of my Comcast box appears to be working.

Of course, now the price of an HDMI-over-ethernet adapter has dropped to $40ish (I had to order one of course). People used to tell me I was insane for running 4 ethernet jacks to every room... now I'll show them! hahahaha.

Ahem. There are jobs. They are just not automotive or manufacturing. Deal with it. Go to school...retrain...do something to better your life. People complain they don't want a nanny state. So do something to make yourself more applicable to the job market. The job market is not going to change just for you.

Re: GAS

I get food stamps a i'm on welfare for disability, and i gotta tell you i need to have more per month as the costs of food are rising dramatically. Last shopping i did i had 14 dollars left instead of the normal 60 or so, and i like and need to have that extra in case something breaks or goes bad or something. It is getting to the point where i'm all most buying basic survival rations such as dried potatoes, only bottled water (which i need because my tap water is questionable), milk and add water soup cups. My nutritional requirements are not being met and it is pissing me off something fierce. I can't buy meat unless it's salt filled precuts from the store, i can't use my access card anywhere except major food retailers, being able to buy milk at 7-11 if i need it at 3 am would be handy!!!!!! There needs to be fixes and funding increases to the welfare/food stamp/cash assistance system.

Uh, take your ignorant personal attacks somewhere else.

Also, this country is messed up hardcore, so don't even get me started. We spend more money per hour killing people than we do on education, parks, medical research, going into outer space, and caring for our veterans combined. Opportunity to go to iraq & die maybe. This place is a sold out joke. Get some perspective.
