| at&t Hopefully this will spur at&t to offer Max Sync (8192) to those who can achieve it. Their current packages only support that amount of total bandwidth in aggregate form, and you need a special router/switch. Until them were stuck with a 6016 down, 768 up. | |

| Windstream is my provider I tried ordering this a couple of days ago but too far away. Hell they rep. told I was too far away to even get the speeds I was getting now. Told her don't you touch my account or I will do a Freddy Krueger and get you thru the phoneline. I'll call again in a couple of days to see if I can order it.

Exactly I do feel "lucky" to have 3m.
I can say that Alltel promised me DSL for 7 years, coming next year. Soon it was the biggest joke in our town and those of us that needed more had to turn to DirecWay (they now totally suck don't consider them).
Once the company was reorganized Windstream had DSL in my town within 5 months of the transition. Not just my town but all the little towns around me. Now what I don't know is if the company change had not happened was it in the works to happen under Alltel anyway.
If you go back into why sometimes I am so bitter it was the way things happened.
Back in the 1990's people were getting two or three phone lines for modems. There was all but zero growth in my town, so it wasn't new construction, but Alltel was running out of lines to my side of town.
So in 1999 they put in the Pegram remote. My modem speeds went from 43K to 19 to 26K. I was upset and so was my neighborhood. We bought extra lines for our modems to have our modem line speed cut in half because they over sold lines.
At that point was when Alltel started it's only 6 months to a year and you will have DSL so relax.
Then in 2003, they feed the Pegram remote with a piece of fiber with hundreds of whiskers. Enough for a lot of bandwidth, huge.
Still no DSL. So we were fiber feed to within 1800 line feet of my house and all I had was 26k modem. And that went on till late Nov 2006. Three years to actually take advantage of the money they spent on installing fiber.
I figured great! I so close to Pegram the DSLAMs could feed me 8m if it were offered.
But again, NOOOOOOOOOOOO,,,,,
A piece of fiber big enough to feed all of FL to my remote. DSLAMs installed.
Again the gottcha, they didn't spend the money to convert the fiber to more than T1's or the DSLAMs were too old to take anything but T1. Causing an expensive piece of gear to be needed to convert DS3 circuits to many T1's to feed the DSLAM cabinet.
So it's not the fiber or the DSLAM that can't run 6m, but the conversion equipment.
Now guessing how long it took to go from 26k to 3m is why I say I scheduled my ADSL2 upgrade for 2015.

| Available Now for Limited Areas This was an overplayed announcement and probably a little premature, if you read the WS Forum. The news article here over plays it's readiness in the same way WS apparently reported it in Sunday's Lexington's Times also per the WS forum. I guess one can tell this from so many less than positive replies here. Premature announcements from anyone doesn't do any good when they state "available now".
It is being rolled out in Lexington, KY because that is there one big city and the a good bit of the rest of their national territory is rural.
There are also people that say that is available in other areas but none of them have actually seen their modems train to the new speed per posts in the WS forum.
Meanwhile probably the lot of us on WS will be on what ever speed we have for the duration, interim or however you wish to phrase it.
And last but far from least, WS has way to slow of upload speeds, in particular when you get in their higher tiers.
3m/384 is tolerable but once you get to 6M/384 then to achieve full download, one can not be uploading at all. For example with an upload throttle to 140kbps on a 384 up system, download will peak at best at 2M, maybe, more like 1.7 to 1.8. So anyone doing any uploading might as well stay on 3/384. And NO I don't do bit torrent, before some one jumps to that conclusion.

| Re: Available Now for Limited Areas OK, I took the plunge. I called WS and they say my area can get 12/786. I have a 30 day trial period, and no contract so I can cancel anytime. They say my line should be on by 5/2 so I will report back then how it compares to my 8/512 from Time Warner. I will be not only looking at speed but latency and jitter as I run 3 VOIP lines over my connection and latency to the VOIP server and Jitter can wreak havoc on the connection.
Can anyone tell me who the primary backbone for Windstream is? TW used to use Level3, but now they use their own network. | |

Lets see here... I'm 1800 feet(actually line distance, as told to me by a level 2 tech who checked for me) from the nearest Remote Terminal, and it only took me a year or so after the rest of the flipping network got 3mb, and I still don't qualify for 6mb... So 12mb ADSL2+? Ah, probably in about 3-5 years... If ever...
But congrats for those handful of lucky people who might qualify in the next year or so!
