Turn out the lights...

As we were the first to report last week, VoIP provider Sunrocket apparently trimmed a significant chunk of their remaining staff last Friday in hopeful preparation for a possible sale. A thread in our VoIP forum has been drawing comments from some of the dismissed employees throughout the weekend, and they say the remainder of the company's employees were let go this morning.

SunRocket has yet to respond to countless requests for comment.

Originally, employees said the company would be trying to keep VoIP service online through any transition or sale -- but this morning those employees began hinting that a buyer backed out and the end had arrived.

As of this afternoon the website was beginning to struggle, and posters reported that even the remaining support techs outsourced to Bell Industries were axed. Calling the company's 1-800 number now gives you the message: "We are no longer taking customer service or sales calls. Goodbye." Goodbye, indeed.

We'd advise you to port your number sooner rather than later. Service is still up, but it may not be for very long.

update: As of 6pm, some customers have reported their lines are going down. Sunrocket customers have yet to get a single official word from the company. Reports are now hitting major news outlets some five days after ex-employees started posting to our forums.
