New RIAA Site Advertises P2P
$1k early settlement shows Google p2p ads
Some have noticed (via Techdirt) that the parked page for the planned 'quick-n-easy' RIAA settlement website we mentioned yesterday contains a flurry of Google ads for p2p programs. Asks Wired: "Does this mean the RIAA can be sued for contributory infringement?"

Didn't we cover this

I thought the RIAA / MPAA / MAFIAA were suing google just recently for making money off of piracy and saying they "support it" though ad-sense. - »Media Companies Accuse Google Of Supporting Piracy
Seems to me that these fools need to do several things here.

#1. Get their heads out of their asses and stop being such a freaking dictatorship. Lord knows that I and everyone else f*cking hates these guys for just not getting with the program

#2. Be 1/2 way smart in their understanding of technology in the 21st century not the 12th century. Every corperation from GM to Ford to Sony etc. keep needing to adapt and develop in newer markets in order to survive, I don't see these guys budging an inch in their draconian pursuit of ruining fun and removing rights from the public and artists.

#3. Change their image (like that will ever happen) and stop making broad sweeping statements that hold no validity in the court of law (not to mention in the publics eyes). I keep seeing a "woe is me" attitude coming from these guys while at the same time their buddies are ready to stab you in the back as soon as they get the chance.

I just wish that the RIAA / MPAA would get with the picture and realize they have a broken business model, that stealing from artists in an almost MAFIAA aproach is not helping them, and that by being total dumbasses when it comes to technology and the press that you almost hope these guys suffer a Darwin award or have someone push them over a cliff into a vat of molten lava.

p.s. Taylor if you read and reply with some answer along the lines of "throw them in jail and burn them alive" all I have to say to you is I hope you realize your digital rights are all but gone thanks to these guys. Not from piracy, but from their own stupidity and greed.

Study: P2P effect on legal music sales "not statistically distinguishable from zero"

A new study in the Journal of Political Economy by Felix Oberholzer-Gee and Koleman Strumpf has found that illegal music downloads have had no noticeable effects on the sale of music, contrary to the claims of the recording industry.

The only things that are gonna stop them...

Is congressional investigations and a class action lawsuit. Otherwise, they are gonna continue along their not-so-merry, Sopranos-like way.

Boil it all down and it goes like this:

"We threaten you. You pay the vig. We go away."

Could it be any more blatant?

No chance of congress getting involved on the consumers' side, given how much RIAA/MPAA bribe campaign contribution money is floating around Capitol Hill...

Nothing to see here.

This is really no big deal. So the RIAA is cheap and is using an ad-run web site which is ironically running P2P ads? Not exactly damning evidence or something you can sue them for. This is a non-issue. Move along.

Re: Nothing to see here.

Just like me being sued for someone using my bandwith on my unsecure wireless network to download copyrighted material. Yet the RIAA feels they can sue me since it's my network connection.

Almost like a double standard. Is this hypocritical? Do what I say not what I do type of thing?

Keep in mind anybody who goes to court using that defense against the RIAA so far haven't been found guilty. So in fact there is no double standard.

RIAA is suing parents because they should know everything that is going on with the kids computer. RIAA should be on top of things and know what and how their stuff (computers, websites, domains and so on) is being used. Just like they expect and demand everyone else to do. The person who created the domain name should be sued from the full force of RIAA. He did not monitor (at all times) how the domain was being used.

Perhaps Taylor is right this time...

Those RIAA criminals are inducing infringements of federal copyright laws and should get the maximum fines possible. In fact, send them all to prison! That will teach them not to violate the law!

Re: Perhaps Taylor is right this time...

Tack on an additional 30-40 years for "Rico statute" violations and collusion, another 40-50 years for impersonation of civil servants..AKA. The Please.

CD price fixing, withholding royalty payments to its very own artists. Reimburse Please departments for wasting taxpayer money on S.W.A.T teams, another 80 years.

Copyright infringement of Captain copyright and the Chicago Cubs logo. Oh wait, according to the pro diaRIAA blowhards that is theft, not copyright infringement, me bad.

Throw the whole lot of them in federal, P.I.A Prison. To be sure the diaRIAA get, what they rightfully deserve in the end. Dump sand in the vasoline.

RIAA pwn3d by Google's Adsense

Subject pretty much says it all.

So do they look the other way when Google is paying
their settlement website bill through the very same
thing they are accusing the search engine of?

No, actually, they make a call and tell GoDaddy to take the Google ads off the page.

Now all that's there are pitches for GoDaddy's services. Not sure what was there before, but it's clean now.

Ubuntu Pieces

Anon

Got P2P ?

I don't think they are advocating any illegal activity by advertising P2P clients. There is a legal program on P2P called Ubuntu that you can download. I use that torrent to test my QOS settings because it will max out my connection in 90 seconds. I never let it finish because I have no taste for the cheese made from yiddish mountain goat's milk (Ubuntu), but I have several folders worth of Ubuntu pieces from my testing runs over the past 2 years. I don't think the RIAA would advertise the P2P clients if it wasn't for Ubuntu. If you DO have 2 or 3 TB of available drive space, you damned sure better not download any music videos or movies and such. They might get you for that.
