Financial markets, phone service disrupted
(old news - 09:13AM Wednesday Dec 27 2006)
tags: trouble · world
Broadband connectivity around Asia was severely disrupted on Wednesday after earthquakes off the coast of Taiwan damaged six undersea cables (earthquake data available here). Hit extremely hard was the financial market, but general telephone service was also disrupted and full repairs could take several weeks. China also saw some impact but wouldn't specify because "undersea communications cables fall in the area of state secrets." Two people were killed by the quakes, which struck at 12:26 GMT on Tuesday.

I guess what time of day Hu Jinato likes to drop a log is a state secret, too.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the US was still the leader in this industry?

Yeah. But I noticed a drop in spam over the weekend and Monday.

Hmmm. Nah. Unrelated.

Wow, look like they didnt have any redundant network. I guess they are going to spend billions next couple months to build another redundant network so this won't happens again.

How does China keep her secrets?

Well let me tell you...

First of all, an ostrich protects itself from danger by sticking its head in the sand.

When our daughters were but wee lil girls, they would walk up to the couch, which was waist tall to them, and bend over and lay on it and stick a pillow over their head and say, you can't find me!

That's what China is doing. How reminiscent...
