| Re: Intel in this to sell their Wimax enabled chips Nice picture of Cairo, but what has that to do with the story and the other posters claim of Fiber to the hut. The rollout is in Oseem, Egypt - not Cairo. »www.intel.com/pressroom/archive/···comp.htm
OSEEM, Egypt, Dec. 18, 2006 In a small city near the Nile River where cars compete with cattle and modern conveniences are scarce, Intel Corporation is using computers and wireless technology to help Oseem's 200,000 residents Of course, the story isn't talking about fiber either. It is about Wimax. -- -- My BLOG My Web Page | |

| Re: A Great Idea said by click_310 : Backspace does have a point. After all Egypt is the birthplace of the Muslim Brotherhood, [ » en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muslim_Brotherhood ] the first radical Islamic organization. Buy Intel stock to support terrorism. They have plants in Israel and also sell to Egypt, making money on both sides does not seem to be favoring one side vs another. | |

| click_310 , if I remember correctly, the most notorious of the 9/11 hijacker was Egyptian. Although Egypt currently has a moderate group running the government, it may not last long which may allow the moslem extremists to gain power. Giving them broadband access can only hasten the islamofacists' attempt to take over the world and convert everyone to their religion and rules.
See »www.cns.miis.edu/research/wtc01/alqaida.htm
quote: Total Members: According to an Arab security service, al-Qaida consists of 2,830 members, including 594 Egyptians, 410 Jordanians, 291 Yemenis, 255 Iraqis, 162 Syrians, 177, Algerians, 111 Sudanese, 63 Tunisians, 53 Moroccans, and 32 Palestinians.[1] These numbers may accurately reflect the proportion of nationalities in the organization, but it is doubtful that anyone (including bin Laden) has such exact counts. There are estimates that the number of members may be much higher. Many al-Qaida members are Mujahideen veterans of the Afghan resistance against the Soviet occupation. These militants fight not only for their cause, but also because it is the only life they know. Most cannot return to their native countries because of their militancy.

| Is this a good thing? Egypt, the birthplace of what we now call "radical islam." Is the rollout of broadband there a good thing? yes and no... it is if the general population is allowed to use the web as they see fit without restrictions and blocked sites.. it's bad if they do what Iran does and they block any site pertaining to democracy, freedom, science and porn (anything western) and at the same time push their own twisted agenda. it's kind of funny because Intel is on the list of companies that Islamists are taught to hate because of Intel's "zionist" ties (which of course, is an absurd, bogus accusation). | |
