"tore apart" means they disconnected you from a powered Verizon line and connected your house to the VOIP service... thats a good thing. Verizon techs hate to do ANY work...especially the old NYNEX union boys.

| Hey Macaholic, I'm one of those union boys. And why does it appear that if your unhappy with our(VZ) work quality, why would you have a Verizon DSL line, where you would go out and post a review of it??? Yeah i get pissed if a customer bitches and moans about there inside wire problem, and want's fix, and yet doesn't want to pay for it, let alone pay for any inside wire insurance. Please cancell your line, and please we don't want you as a FIOS customer either!!! A Verizon Tech | |

A Union pr*ck like you showed up and told her they sent the wrong guy. We call the Presidential appeal office.. and wouldn't you know the SAME guy shows up and fixes her problem in the basement the very next day. He grumbled the whole way through he actually had to do some real work instead of eating donuts... sorry fella but you old NYNEX boys are pr*cks plain and simple. | I'm from Albany, NY too and didn't notice my Time Warner technician tearing anything apart. Disconnecting the phone so that he could connect it to the digital phone system? Yes. Tearing it out so that it wouldn't work anymore? No. (Then again, we haven't tried to switch back to Verizon. And aren't likely to.)

Anywho, this ought to be interesting for me since I live in San Antonio (an apartment no less). Oh, and on a side note, the guy in gray who ends in the pool reminds me of my city's old mayor who goes by the name of "Howard Peak".

| The Cable Guys don't know what they are doing This is a result of "cable guys" trying to do phone work. They typically have no experience in telephony and poor training. Sure, they can check for dial tone, but let them try to troubleshoot a ciruit. Also, I don't think they are even aware of regulatory things like DEMARCATION POINTS. The cable wanna-be-telco companies need to actually train their people. | |

| Re: The Cable Guys don't know what they are doing Just as Telco guys don't know how to install equip in an inconspicuous manner. I can't tell you how many times I see demarc grounds that are completely ineffective. Yes, the tag is on it, the rod clamp and/or split bolt is on and tightened. But to what? A powdercoated piece of metal, or a painted, or masonry compound coated ground rod? The best is see a split bolt attached to a painted #6 ground.

| I wonder if Telco guys know what a right angle is? I dont know how many homes or MDUs Ive been to where the line is ran diagnally across a wall crossing all kinds of crap and then tie wrapped to the cable line along the wall.
Every industry has poorly trained monkeys. And cable got in the game this year, and telco is getting into the game as well. I cant wait to see them daisy chain the video outlets like the do phone.

3 edits | I would completely agree with poorly trained subcontractors. One home I went to swap someone from digital phone had all of their phone jacks removed, with the exception of one. He didn't only do that, he also cut the wires short enough to negate any potential troubleshooting. The best thing is that his supervisor supposedly informed him to try this. This type of thing of course only very rarely happens, but it's one example. Towards the beginning things were rough with severed cable drops, and wires trimmed back so they wouldn't be able to reach the telco demarc anymore.
Things are much better now, and I see very little of this type of work. They often just cut the wires right at the customer side of the NID, and wrap/coil it up in their bridging terminal next to the NID. I can say this at least for Maine.
I have nothing against any cable company, or telco; just the lack of training that can be found at times for their employees. This includes myself, because I'm certainly not perfect.
