| Yea right! How do you expect them to do this when they can't even manage their own dns correctly?

| Weird Al's MySpace page I know that a few bands have their own MySpace pages. For example, Weird Al is at »www.myspace.com/weirdal . Now, on his page are some of his songs. These are obviously copyrighted and would likely be removed if someone else put them on their MySpace page. So will they be removed from Weird Al's page also? If they let Al keep his songs on, though, will "You're Pitiful" be flagged as James Blunt's "You're Beautiful" (which it spoofs) and be taken down?
I forsee a lot of false positives and wrongful takedowns in MySpace's future.

| Your answer is at the bottom of the Forbes piece:
"In September, MySpace unveiled plans for a new online music store with Snocap that will enable musicians and record labels to sell their music on MySpace. The store will allow MySpace to provide its members with a greatly expanded inventory of fresh music content without running into legal headaches over copyrights."
Translation: They're ready to charge for that content so it's time to restrict the free, uncontrolled distribution.
News Corp owns this thing. Is anyone really that surprised?

| I Don't Get It Myspace itself added an "Add" button to the music player on band profiles allowing you to add their track to your profile. How is that ANY different than if you owned the album it was on and uploaded it yourself? | |

| Re: I Don't Get It The difference is that in your example the band owns the music so they can do with it as they see fit. You only own the physical media ("the album") so unless you can figure out a way to stuff into your MySpace profile you have no right to make it available to anyone in another form. It's called redistribution. | |

| LOL Glad I didn't pay Billions for it I think we all knew this was coming. I about fell over when someone bought myspace and especially Youtube for Billions(?). Least Myspace will survive it.... However youtube isn't worth 20 million now. Somethings gonna have to give for them to survive and be worth what was paid. I'm not saying it will go offline.... | Re: LOL Glad I didn't pay Billions for it MySpace was a smart buy at $580 million since Murdoch knows where the kids are. Look at the ads on the site: aimed at the lucrative 18-35 crowd and the lucrative teen crowd.
In just the last 3 months, MySpace has added 25 million new "friends." It also is the top 5 in hits in the entire web. $580 million for that audience is cheap!
Keeping it free to join (with ad placements) probably will allow 200 million "friends by the middle of the next year.

| MY Space; You Tube = Doomed If they employ copyright policing, these sites are doomed. They will become like all the other sites on the web, dull. The idiots in management and marketing at theses firms better realize that their best customers are also those individuals that "break copyright lawas" by uploading "protedted" content. Instead they should know that the exposure is what esells their artists. If I can see it , I might buy it. If they lock it up..there's no chance. My own sites on YOU TUBE and MYSPACE "infringe" on other's copyrights..but they also remain objects of my professional creation. That is, they are the official creation of the artists in question, just aided by my vision and creativity. I did not created these works soley for the money, and I've uploaded them.. Now if they enforce thier 'BULLSH*T' COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT arguments, ok I didn't write the song or publish the music..But I created each PIXEL of the video..so NOW I'd hav'ta pull it..It doesn't make sense. THIS ACTION WILL KILL MYSPACE & YOUTUBE fer sure. | |

| Seems right that someone objecting to my post would be ONLY IN IT FOR THE MONEY
RE your signature that shows you wouldn't give blood unless they paid you for it..what a cruel individual you are!
MTV was attacted at first by the RECORD LABELS because their model didn't include paying for the content they aired! MTV is a success story of the 80's
YOUTUBE & MYSPACE are merely the MTV of the NEW MILLENIUM..so copyright holders get your greedy mits off our pitiful 9'59" of FAME and get lost. The income will actually increase to your valuable properties if you loose the obsolete"BBC NEEDLE TIME" argument for PAYMENT
If'n you don't know whst NEEDLE TIME means..look it up! In the early days of RADIO in the U.K. radio stations hadda pay each play exhorbitantly! until they examined the American royalty example and caved....
