Where are you getting the DRM/low res info from? Did you even read the article?

"24" and "Prison Break," along with feature films, including "X-Men: The Last Stand" are hardly pee wee type shows.

Re: Crap

Because so far, NONE of the major labels or studios have released anything "legitimate" that wasn't severely restricted due to DRM and the movies they release online typically are extremely low-res. Now, if they were to release movies that had no DRM and were offered as either uncompressed MPEG-2 videos (for easy burn to DVD) and/or compressed high-res MPEG-4 videos then I might be tempted... but not at the price points they're quoting. I would never pay $20 for a low-res DRM copy of "X-Men," for example, when I can drive 5 minutes to Wal-mart and get the actual DVD for the same price that has NO DRM and is the highest res available (with HD-DVD exception).

Re: $2.00?

Even for HD video $20 a movie is too much IMHO for such service to become significantly popular.

Re: $2.00?

With your cable you are restricted to watching what they want you to watch. This video distrubtion concept is the future.

Exactly. I can watch movies in HD via my cable service (premium channels) and record them with my DVR and watch them whenever. And that's for a heck of a lot less than $20.

·WOW Internet and C..

At $2.00 per episode it makes it more expensive than buying DVD set. A typical season will run 24 episodes bringing up the total to $48 per season. New DVD sets on the other hand typically launch at $45-50, and frequently you can buy them on sale for $25-35. Why would anyone pay $2 per episode is beyond me. The price is just not right. Any reasonable person would either watch those on TV or download BT and buy the series if he likes it.

Excellent Alternative to High Priced Cable TV Subscription

Sounds like the ultimate al la carte service. With a product like this, who needs a cable subscription?

Re: Excellent Alternative to High Priced Cable TV Subscription

Hi, JTRockville. My neighbor here in Randolph Hills noticed that a contractor's truck was putting up boxes along the wires on the telephone lines. This is along Ashley Drive, between Skuylkill and Randolph Roads. Do you know whether this is something good? Thanks.

Re: Excellent Alternative to High Priced Cable TV Subscription

I haven't seen anything interesting yet, but I'll go snooping around tomorrow with my digital camera.

* crosses fingers *

I'm not too hopeful though. We're not listed on Verizon's construction schedule for September:

Thanks for the tip!

How soon?

It will be interesting to see if they offer these before the movie is out on DVD.

If they do I think they will sell, if you can get it on DVD already pft big deal....

Sure... a $20 download that I have to then burn off to DVD is going to sell WAAAY better than a $15 initial release that I don't have to mess around with media. Make it $10, and offer unprotected ISO images, then you may have something. No way in hell am I buying ANY movie for more the $15.

$20 a month

Gets me NetFlix and at least nine movies a month! Sometimes 12 !!
I "Watch" them for under 30 min each and return them when I have finished "watching" them.
I'm off to NewEgg to order a 16x "watcher" now.
