gotta love the US entertainment industry, whenever they fight something it only becomes more powerfull and more used. Napster was a fairly small operation, RIAA moved in and now P2P is as well known as broadband.

Napster was actually pretty popular, the problem was that broadband wasn't as widespread during that time as it is now. I for one was on dial-up at that time, DSL was just becoming available in my area, and it was pretty slow, cable was not deployed as of yet.

So my Napster experience was not as good as it would have been has it still been around today. College students with fast pipes were the heaviest users of it for the most part, but then some colleges and universities blocked the ports used by Napster even before RIAA got to it.

Do not understand...

Why move to the Netherlands? I thought Copyright Laws were more LAX in Sweden than in the Netherlands, so why move? Why not fight the good fight in Sweden?

With weed and prostitution being legal there, I wouldn't be surprised if copyright infringement gets legalized as well.

Looks like Netherlands are gong to get a visit from **AA's. Gets expensive to buy news servers everytime you get raided.

All the happy gloating "Copyright Infingers" will have to eat their words after the Netherlands is pressured into enforcing the law too. It's called "Whack-a-mole" and this mole will be wacked again and again until they are either in jail or broke.

Did you get permission to use that image as your avatar and reproduce the likeness of said image in every post you make?

HAHAHA thanks for the laugh XXAA shill. And yes you are being a shill because you are suggesting a US policy of imperialism. The RIAA or MPAA doesn't have the right to pressure anyone and I thank the pirate bay for standing up to their audacity.

I wouldn't call TK a XXIA shill for his post.

In fact I totally agree with the argument he presented here.

Why? Lets look at the facts.

1st)How much $$$$ did the MPAA gross in this year alone from January due to movie releases? The latest film release grossed millions in a few days.

2nd) How much $$$$ did the RIAA reap from January of this year? I didn't look at that figure,so I can't say.

The message of TK's post is obvious,As long as people keep buying from the **AA's.The **AA's will continue to have the financial clout to spread to and influence other countries to "whack the moles".

People today have short attention spans,as in...IE .I will share files, screw the **AA's.Hey look, cool last seasons show of (fill in the blank) is available on DVD at Walmart or wherever, sweet.

Same goes for people who purchase Itunes,The RIAA is STILL getting its cut.It would take a massive boycott for a couple of years maybe longer,to bankrupt the RIAA/MPAA, because of those millions of $$$ they are collecting in interest.

To apply that type of stranglehold of death to these azzholes,I'll say most people do not have the gumption and/or will forget all about boycotting in a few months,if not weeks.

A successful boycott to break their piggy bank, would include not purchasing anything even remotely connected to them.Flame away at me if you must for this post,However I'm boycotting these greedy bastids.

Re: A blind man could see that coming.

I think 1 week and the XXAA would cave. Actually, if they don't cave then it is from sheer stuborness and they will try to pass the blame onto piracy. However, knowing their greedy nature I think they would cave and lower prices or something. It's just both strategies are au contraire to their greed.

Re: A blind man could see that coming.

haha you guys are starting to sound like those gas boycott spams I get. I used blockbuster to rent movies, so I guess I support the **AA's profits as well, but CDs are over priced. I can get local bands CD recorded in studio for less than half the price.

DOWN

It's actually down (thepiratebay.org) for me...just my ineternet connection, or is their LigHTTPD service stopped? EDIT: Appears to be coming up/down for me. Guess doubling traffic does that...heh

tracert goes out my level3, into sprintlink, then two hops out of them. I'm wondering how long until **AA forces sprint to drop them as a customer. I just know something stupid like that is next...

If they get raided again, they should move operations to Japan. Very Lax Copyright laws. Almost non-existant.

oh shut up

with all that "well, since drugs are rampantly used there, the lays wpuld HAVE to be lax" or "i KNOW country A's laws are lax". Who cares? Thats not what the news articles about. They did the move cuase there WERE raided, hell I'd move too if the cops thought they could walk all over my house. (which happens all over urban citys in the US, btw)

The real problem is the lack of foresight ANYONE at the RIAA has...how are you gonna quell the tide of mass trading? YOU CANT! From Gnutell an such to Napster to Kazaa to Torrents to (which is oldest an owns em all) Groupz...Nothin's stopping this gravy train!

Aye. RIAA is a conglomeration of retards. If they'd go down on the prices, and give a reasonable usable service that isn't restricted into oblivion, we might use it!

just make the tracks

@speakeasy.net

75cents per track with no DRM

Charge 50cents per song with DRM or 75cents without DRM.
There are several hundred songs I would buy the first day. I still think 99cents for a DRMed track is way too much.

Problem is, people who run the record labels are "normal business" execs. Hell, half of big labels are owned by companies that have nothing to do with music and arts.

Until than, I will be listening to my Sirius and Shoutcast stations from EU. I have not purchased a CD in more than 5 years, haven't listened to "normal" radio ever since Sirius and XM came out.

In the long run I see RIAA winning this battle, its just a matter of time before they really pressure these countries to give in and take serious action against pirate bay.

Pirate Bay Rules

I'd respect the AA's more if they just admitted that P2P apps don't even dent their bottom line. Instead, they choose to inflate their numbers and make it seem as if P2P is devouring its profits.

Let's not forget what happened to suprnova though. Even though this truly is a real life whack-a-mole, the most popular and publicized sites are the ones who take the fall.

Give UP!!

The more they try to take this stuff off the internet, THE MORE OF IT THERE WILL BE!

Have they not understood something in life that when you take something that people are aware of away from them, even if they didn't want it, they'll start wanting it afterwards.

Oh well. If they seriously think they can possibly put an end to illegal downloading, I guess they've got something lodged in their brains somewhere.

The Irony of History

This just made me laugh, so I thought I'd share. America came to be due to man's desire to live a life free from oppression of the "powers-that-be" at the time. Sadly, now that we are home to the powers-that-be - the time has come to shed those oppressive forces again. There will always be an "opposing faction" - and they usually win out in the long run because they hold true to their ideals....
