As long as Disney/ABC holds cable companies hostage with conditions for ESPN et al, we will never see any real price reform. The same goes for the regional sports networks. As long as they insist on being in a basic tier and charging for all the potential eyeballs watching rather than those who really want to watch, we will continue to pay. Sports programming accounts for around 10 to 20 percent of your bill. | |

And even if the pricing issues were fixed do you really think the cablecos/sat companies are going to share any of that with subs? NO, it'll go into the FATCATs pockets.

| Why do phone companies deserve special treatment? For phone companies eager to offer TV service, the bill would give those agreeing to a la carte pricing a national franchise system so they'd no longer need to petition every community they want to serve.
Why do just the phone companies get this special treatment. Oh, that's right they are in his back pocket.

| Vote yes for A La Carte I would be extremely happy if A La Carte programming was availible from content providers.
My line-up of channels would not include any News networks (Newspaper anyone?), no Sports channels, no stations such as HSN, QBC, or that other shopping channel, and no music stations (those digital music stations).
There, I believe I've cut down on the amount of my bill. | |

It wouldn't end the HSN's, QVC's, and other shopping networks and many of the religious nets. They PAY the cable companies to be carried. Not the other way around. Those, unfortunately are here to stay no matter what system is in effect.

I acknowledge that there are people who want to receive those channels, and that is what true a la carte is about (or should be about): what people want.
If for example, all a person watches is sports and news, then by all means should they be able to only subscribe to sports and news channels.
I, for example, watch mostly anime, and a few cartoons. I also enjoy a good movie every once and a while. I have news content delivered to my cell phone and email inbox, and I will pick up a newspaper and read it. I couldn't care less about sports, I don't listen to those digital music channels, and I couldn't care less about what is on HSN or QVC. If I want any news beyond the newspaper or the news content I've subscribed to, then I will watch one of the evening news programs on the local networks. | |

These operators stuff their "family plan" with junk/spam TV which they get paid to broadcast...and they call it "a robust package at a reasonable price".
I could build an affordable package with 10 channels that would suit 95% of my viewing desires.
Do you hear that cable?

A MEASLY TEN CHANNELS.
Scary eh?! What's scarier is that someday I'll be able to do that...and you'll have even less of a chance to sell me on things I don't need. I might even pay more to have the benefit of avoiding your crapolla! | |

I should not HAVE to pay for crap channels I don't want i.e. ESPN, MTV etc. I should have to and would pay for channels I watch to watch free of adverts + the cost of delivery be that infrastructure maintenance, repairs, equip in my house etc. | |

| screw the incentives to hell with incentivizing the cablecos - just pass a law to make them do it.
Although I think the real issue is the way programming is sold and carriage requirement rules. The crappy channels (eg,the nose lint channel) are forced onto carriers as a condition for getting the good channels and sports carriage costs are high. | |
