The cable industry is mulling a big wireless push through a CableRoam initiative, reports Red Herring. The report is ridiculously vague, but according to internal documents from the cable trade group CableLabs, the cable industry is looking into technology that can bring together content over WiMAX, Metro Wi-Fi, and home Wi-Fi networks.

I thought all content providers toed the line on the idea that paying customers who wanted to view anything outside of their determined time/place/device were all crooks.
How is this initiative supposed to work within that paradigm? -- Rove / Rumsfeld 2008!
Probably is. Wouldnt mind seeing something like this in all cities someday...make for some good competition since its not difficult (to most) to use a wireless internet connection
No. More likely this is in response to cities entertaining bids on their own WIFI. Bidding isnt limited to anyone. Even the "encumbant(s)" cableco can offer WIFI through the city.
City WIFI is neat and all but if somone is paying 50-60.00 a month for Broadband there is a good chance WIFI will not interest them.
Its a built in low tier subscrber base. Youve got the highend users.. why sacrifice the low end wifi users to the city. -- *´*) ¸.´¸.*') ¸.*. (¸.´ (¸.' Technicians -Unplugged
