As a broadband only channel
(old news - 09:53AM Thursday Nov 24 2005)
tags: Video · content
The Trio TV network hasn't had much fortune in the traditional cable TV lineup, so they're ditching tradition and creating a broadband only TV channel, reports the Daily Bulletin. It will be re-launched in January under the BravoTV.com banner.

Another network I never heard of gone

Obviously this network was never carried by Comcast(so I never saw it) and never had much of an audience elsewhere either(especially after DirecTV dropped it). I guess their advertising budget was nil.

Will their network( it will relaunch on Jan. 1 as a broadband network under the BravoTV.com banner ) be free on the internet or will they try and charge for it?

I've never heard of them either. Must be a Whatcom County thing.

Sounds like a waste of bandwidth, too.

Man, I used to watch Bravo all the time on DirecTV... I guess I was in the extreme minority.

Re: Another network I never heard of gone

What really killed TRIO was not only the dropping of carriage on Directv in January of this year, but the lack of popularity in canadian oriented programming in the U.S. it seems. A similar network in Newsworld International also fell victim to the problem, and was turned into a very lame channel called Current TV.

Hey maybe Celerity will be happy now, that he can finally see some of the programs that TRIO showed online.:)

I've heard of them

They had ads on NYC buses awhile ago. I watched the channel for like 5 seconds and forgot about it.

Totally agree. I can't wait for BG or 24 to return.

And who cares about Trio? I have DirecTV and never noticed they were dropped.

Interesting

I don't remember if I saw them on Directv or Time warner had them. IMO, they didn't have alot that other bigger name networks had to offer.

Re: TRIO

I liked the network too. It was on the DirecTV lineup and they had the good concerts and "Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In" on during the early evening. Great show. I watched this network fairly often. It is missed.

I've watched it

I watched trio on optilink and enjoyed the brilliant but cancelled series. I hate that it was removed from the tv line-up.

TRIO GONE, BUT"religious" chan clutter my line-up

I Enjoyed many of the programs that TRIO offered, and it had great potential. I suspect that the Head of Programming should have been replaced. Such a waste It was one of the few bright spots amid all the CRAP I am paying for but offended by, such as the "Send your $$ to jesus , care of me" "We are christians and love is the message to all, except if you're gay, then burn in hell". I want all of those channels grouped into ONE package that I can choose NOT TO PAY FOR and NOT TO RECEIVE. I'd like to start a movement of like minded people.. INTERESTED??
ALSO...what ever happened to the "Q" channel that was to come to Comcast, instead we got "LOGO" , IT DEFIANTLY NEEDS TO BE RE-TOOLED, QUICKLY, I have about given up on it, and as a friend said to me tonight "If I see another "80's AIDS movie of the week on it, I'll PLOTZ" It'll soon go the way of trio if they don't do something fast.
Well, That's my rant, and I'm sticking to it.

Trio great watching

I miss Trio and it has only been off air 4 days. Some of the documentaries were often critical of the media industry and the programs were cutting edge, even the reruns of ones long cancelled. I often wondered if that is why there was a lack of advertisement on the network.

What is this crap about Trio being so much like Bravo that NBC is sending it to the web? Bravo has Poker showdowns and Queer Eye - Trio had "Parking Lot" and "Gay Republicans". No comparisons. In the meantime, there are no Trio shows on broad yet. I hope that the Trio content doesn't get lost.

wistful

TRIO

Too bad about Trio and CBC Newsworld. Newsworld was about the only easily available international news outlet available. (BBC is mediocre). And Trio was uneven but consistently worth tuning in to. Two more things not to watch.
