| yah, i think is directed at primus in western canada. The monster cable company shaw, implemented caps years ago. Recently telus the dsl provider started to make a halfassed attempt to enforce caps. So that only left resellers. A bunch of people bailed to primus because they advertise unlimited downloads.
if they implement caps, I can see all those people bailing. Theres no point being on dsl around if you're capped, because its alot slower then cable (unless your in a congested area).
so yah.. there really are no alternatives if you want over 50/60gb a month in western canada. Our isps suck compared to what they have in the east. | |

I respond that it's not the users responsibility to ensure companies make a profit. If they advertise unlimited connection at 6mb, then by definition, you 'could' download 1.879692 Tb per month (including overhead). And that's what they advertised. In todays world of 500GB hard drives, and all the movies/tv shows/music/software you want for free, 1.8Tb isn't really that much data.
Oh! Wait, are you calling me a thief? Why, I can't be, cause the SONY Executives are my moral compass. They are big business, so they must be morally correct. They don't seem to have any problem STEALING source code (The DRM theft of code from Lame) so why should I have a problem stealing other stuff? (technically, I am infringing). If they don't go to jail, for STEALING 3 MILLION times, why should I go to jail for stealing 1,000 times?

If an ISP advertises unlimited usage, then it should prepare for and expect unlimited usage. If an ISP doesn't like it then it should not use the word "unlimited" in any of its advertising. If they want to cap, that's fine (I'll take my business elsewhere). If they want to throttle certain traffic, that's fine too (just let me know what's being throttled).
I'm always the last one to suggest that "there ought to be a law" against this sort of BS but I'll suggest it. Companies should just not be allowed to make up new meanings for words such as "unlimited" or advertise one rate for service but then charge that along with a bunch of other BS fees that weren't mentioned before you signed the contract. This is just not honest.

That isn't to say that it doesn't exist... I am by no means omnipresent. I've had Road Runner in Birmingham, AL, Charter in Birmingham, AL, Road Runner in Fort Hood, TX and Optimum Online in Lakewood, NJ; not one ever described their service as unlimited. The only thing I have seen published was a speed; never a volume.
I do agree... a company should ONLY use the word "unlimited" if that TRUELY means unlimited; read: no TOA/etc limiting what can be used. | |

| Seen this before... Just another empty threat by another high-speed provider. We've seen others do the exact same thing in the past (Comcast)... mail out letters telling of a cap, not telling any of their own employees about a cap and then trying to wiggle out of the statement once people complain that it goes against their own promise of unlimited service.
